Quick telecomms question
Discussion
I am preparing a rough udget for a proposed move to a new office and need guidance from those of you in the industry.
If I were to lease a new phone system for 30 people, most of those making national outgoing calls for 4 hrs p/day. what sort of options are open to me and with the advances in new technology etc, what sort of cost could I expect.
I am currently paying standard BT and hope to make a huge saving in moving to our own premises.
just looking for rough guides.
cheers

We have a centre with 10 seats and are mainly involved with calling mobiles, via an Aviya system, with Opal Telecom, i found them to be the best deal.
Failing that, outside of hardware, BT can be driven down very low if you can commit to terms. Good Luck, the call centre industry is a rollocking roller coaster of a ride!!

Commit to a 5k call spend with BT for yr1 and they will install up to 30 ISDN30 channels free IIRC. You are then free to move calls/rental to whoever.
Cost of hardware is "how long is a bit of string" depending on what functions and features you want...also you need to consider existing cabling infrastructure of your new site as this can be a significant cost.
I work for a well known manufacturer (not BT!), mail me if you want to pursue and I can get one of our partners to talk to you in more depth.

In order to get ISDN lines installed Free you have to commit to a Package called Business Plan from BT which is for the calls. You are not free to move them elsewhere until after you have hit your call commitments with BT - Business Plan essentially is very cheap for long calls and very expensive for short ones. As a business you generally make far more short calls than you do long ones therefore it is very easy to end up paying more in charges to BT then you would have done if you had paid for them to be installed in the first place.
Having said that from a cash flow point of view it is a way of defering the cost.
I would expect as a ball park you would expect to spend between about 5 and 10k depending on spec providing you were not after call centre working.
Your best bet is to get a few people in for quotes shop around and see who impresses you the most - you can buy the same system from 3 different people and have 3 different impressions of it. The people installing it are as important as the system itself, you will need to have support in the future.
Edited for a shameless plug (which also explains the above) www.southern-comms.co.uk.
and
Ian do you work for a large Japanese firm based in Loughborough? I was going to email you but it won't let me.

You can actually commit to 5k, spend less, then only pay BT 20% of the balance, rather than the full whack.
EG 5k commitment (actually only 4500 as I believe they only hold you to 90% of the commitment anyway)
Spend £1000 annually on calls
Only pay 20% of the remaining £3500,ie £700 rather than the full £3500 itself. £700 will probably be far cheaper than ISDN30 line install, depending on how many channels you require.
This procedure shoudl be available in the online pricing manual.

Very true...most peeps will be making short calls, so well worth digging deep into average length of calls, likely to be v short in fairness (quick converations, voicemails etc)
