Hi all,
have noticed some rumbles, king of low frequency rattlings, coming from the gearbox area when depressing the clutch - usually when gearbox/engine are cold. Noise does not disappear always, if clutch let out in neutral but always if a gear is selected and even only part clutch engagement.
Asked the garage that serviced the car and got the old 'they all do that sir'. Anyone else get these noises? I'm worrying about crankshaft thrustbearings and layshaft bearings etc at the moment?

I think it's probably slack in the balancer shafts. Mine does it but curiously only when the gearbox oil is hot.

As long as the gears work, it's probably best to leave it.

I have also just read in the bible version 2 that such rattles can be caused by worn bearings in the gearbox input shaft.
