Porsche Alarms - Cat1 approved?

I am looking for a 944 S2, and saw one last night.
It had an alarm on it which raised questions.
The vendor said it was a Cat1 approved alarm, and he got the corresponding Cat1 insurance premium reduction from his insurer. However, it was unlike any Cat1 alarm I have seen. It wasn't remote controlled - instead, it set when you locked the drivers door with the key, and unset when you unlocked it. It centrally-locked the other doors, and had a red LED on top of the drivers door pin.
He didn't have a normal Cat1 certificate, but he did have an A4 certificate (more in the form of a letter) which stated that a Porsche-approved alarm had been fitted to the vehicle (with chassis number) and the date and the signature of the installer.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Was it Cat1, or not?
I understand that it was fitted in the early 90's to the car, which is (I think) before the thatcham system came in.
Any ideas?

Sounds like it might be the same as the hamilton palmer one that was fitted to my S2. IIRC my insurance company would only give me cat2 something to do with distanmce immob was fitted wiriing wise. I didnt understand. Anyway it packed up so I have a new one anyway. However if you give hamilton plamer a call they will be able to tell you which one it is. It wasn't fitted by the factory at build but later fitted to the car by Porsche GB when they got here. So Porsche may be able to tell you too.

My S2 had the original porsche alarm and a 10 year old cobra system fitted as well. I had the cat certificate for the cobra. My understanding was that the original porsche alarms (we are talking 14 years ago now) were not thatcham approved so owners had additional alarms fitted for insurance. I have seen many older porsche's with 2 alarms fitted.
Anyway it was such a pain operating 2 alarms I had them both ripped out and a new cat 1 fitted. The certificate clearly states it is cat 1 approved.
