The day finally came

And i picked a 93 4.3 Chim up from London yesterday, knowing i had a 120 mile journey home i was quite nervous!
It was a interesting drive home with the fuel gauge not working and not knowing how many miles these cars do on a full tank!
More or less as soon as i got on the motorway things started to show up the miss fire wouldnt let the revs go past 3k (even tho on the test it was only doing it between 3&4k), the temp gauge was showing 90c & 4th started to become rather hard to get into gear!!
But hey, never mind, got it home and even tho things arnt great the drive was fantastic....what an awsome car!
So started work on it 2nite and got the fuel gauge working (i think). Re earthed the alternator, which for some reason has cleared the misfire, well it now revs past 3k but every so often i get a misfire so ill have to start checking other things as its had new leads, plugs, coil and cap v recently!
Iv tried searching for answers regaring the temp and 4th but the search doesnt seem to be working!?
What should the temp gauge be showing? I took it out earlier and it nearly got upto 100c is there a cure ie, flushing the rad out or is it new rad time?
Is not getting into 4th a common problem, should this be something to be worried about?

I reckon the cam is prolly on its last legs, mine was when it wouldnt rev at the top, it had 3 lobes that were gone.

Took it out tonight and it revs upto 5.5k without a problem, there is just the occasional misfire??

Have you checked the main engine earth strap that goes to the chassis. Viewable with the OS front wheel off.

No mate, not tried that yet, ill have a look at that 2mora nite I was looking for it earlier in the engine bay but couldnt see it. Now i no where it is ill give it a check!
