Apolgies for the crap (huge) pics!

Got to say, this is a great bike. The power is everwhere and this is during running in (< 6.5K RPM)! It doesn't feel like a thousand either - no different to a 600... Great to be back on a bike again - the whole experience is fantastic even when just crusing down a country lane at 40mph... I do love cars but the bike has that added out in the open fun factor and all for £8K!

You're not my wife are you - only you sound so much like her and the roll of eyes is so similar.

nice bike. give it 100 miles or so <6.5k, then ride it normally. get the oil changed for fully synth @ 500 miles and away you go!

I could be talking total cr@p here (and please let me know if I am!) but I thought that fully synthetic oil was not a good idea in motorcycles due to the wet clutch.

As regards running in, I've always found that a short time (100 to 250 miles) at restricted revs/engine load followed by a gradual increase to full revs/load over the next 250 to 500, followed by and oil change works well.

Edit to add: Cracking bike by the way!

You can run synthetics in a bike, but it needs additives compared to car stuff, to prevent clutch slip.

Semi Synth is the way to go to prevent clutch slip

Don't run it in too gently and I bet it doesn't feel like a 600 above 6.5k

Gorgeous bike!

All the best,
Paul

Thanks. Yeah, it feels seriously fast - should be fun finding out. When I said it doesn't feel like a thousand, I mean in terms of weight - it's a great bike

Ahh sorry I misunderstood about the weight! I was looking at this thread at work and a colleague decribed it as "bike porn" - he was right

Paul, very jealous!

Hi shot2bits

you just bought a perfect piece of technologic art with a wild, unstoppable soul... no other bike has the peculiar spirit GSXRs have. I (very) proudly own the little devil of the family, the 600 K4 and after having tested the 1000 K5 and 750 K6, and I know in the next years I will own the entire family so, you did a great choice, cheers to ya
just one advice, as far oil is concerned: do not use semi-synt oil. As the factory suggests, with high-performance engines like sportbikes ones you have to use synt oil only. I spare you the story of me riding full throttle during th first 1000 km, having to add oil and putting in some semi-synt not knowing that I should't. after the first 1000 km, the official suzuki dealer/mechanic changed the oil in my p&j with motul synt, and told me to always use this kind of oil. at 4.500 I changed oil&filter myself, and put in castrol R4 superbike, and I can tell you I'll never go back. you can feel the change in the bike sound and acceleration. abosolutely awesome product, and costs less than the motul one oh, before I forget: the clutch has always worked like a swiss clock, perfect every single time. can't understand why synt oil should make it slip... never happened (done 21.000 km)
