BoxterS upgrades
Discussion
Hi guys, I'm potentially new to the Porsche world, and while a 996 turbo is ideal for performance, a 5yr old Boxter S is more in line with the budget, but coming from a TVR Grif will miss the outright grunt.
I saw a 964 in a mag a while back with a supercharger fited for only a few grand and pumped out about 350hp.
Has anyone ever fitted a s/chager to a Boxter..if so how much cash/trouble?
Before anyone suggests, a 996 is a bit too much money, and I like the idea of a soft top...

Lots of cash and lots of trouble. Not to mention the fact that the car will be difficult to sell on after.
I believe on most conversions the rear boot space is compromised as well.
The key people who do wonderfully silly things to Porsches are Gemballa and Ruf. Both will be loadsamoney.
I've considered it myself! But currently am happy to enjoy the handling...
Not sure about 'only a few grand'.... my supercharger install on my 993 cost around 8k.
If it's anything like my engine though it'd be worth doing! Check the space requirements - superchargers aren't small pieces of kit, but in my case most of the original bulky induction kit could be removed and replaced with a much lower profile inlet manifold.
Ruf and Gemballa do engine swaps as well - i.e. putting a tuned 911 motor into the Boxster. Neither of these companies do things anywhere near cheaply

Not a bad idea...I heard a 3.4 (therefor a 3.6 / 3.8) swap was relatively straight forward???
What does a decent second hand 3.6 motor go for these days?

If you just want more power. I have nothing to add to what has already been said.
If you want more performance, then the ride height, geo & brakes could all be upgraded w/o spending stupid cash, but the best investment might be some advanced driver training.
I'm pretty sure that in standard form the Boxter S goes round corners better than my Grif does, it's the outright poke that is lacking for me to do the trade.

NineMeister have just done it... Can't find the thread at the moment, but it's in here somewhere...
I'd buy one
We are indeed doing it, not quite done it yet.
Our package uses a low boost centrifugal blower (in a similar way to our 360bhp 968 SC conversion) and we expect to add around 80bhp to the rear tyres which is equivalent to about 100bhp at the crank. No firm price for the kit yet, at a prototype level it has cost us £10k to make but we expect a production price of £6000+VAT or less. We are also on the case with the potential engine weak link of broken liners and have an upgrade on the way that should totally resolve the problems associated with the Porsche watercooled blocks (even though they do not admit that there is one!) so watch this space, as they say.
PS we don't fit anything into the boot space, the whole kit is fitted into the engine bay including the intercooler, so you will not have to compromise anything except tyre and brake pad life.

Please keep us informed! So - this would give me a (roughly) 360bhp Boxster S - with no compromise in terms of useability?
Nice
It would raise a few eyebrows at the PCGB trackdays wouldn't it!
I might have to send my Box for a little holiday...
