Hi Guys, took the engine out Thurs, the pre cats were flapping about in the exhaust manifolds, so, obviously they are now history! however the one in the tea earn is still there. The intention is to open this up and cut it out and re weld. Anyone done this? I know of the MOT implications before anyone pipes up!

Hi, i did it to my griff, i cut at the bottom off the y piece but i was a pig to get out, if i were doing it again would cut it top and bottom just to make it easier also wrap it in exhaust bandage(the stuff they use on racers)i found it resonated quite alot without.hope this helps

Hi mate. Just removed the centre box from my Chym and believe me, if it was any louder i would need ear plugs. My intention was to completly de-cat it but have now decided it is just fine. Pretty funny if we start up next to anything with an alarm on though, especially in multi storry car parks

I removed the cat on the racer after Oulton. I used a Dremel type thing with thin cutting discs to cut the dustbin open, about half way up (marking the orientation a few times first though). I then pulled the top off the dustbin, and went into battle to extrack the cat from the lower half, the cat won the first few skirmishes, but lost the battle. I then put the two halves together, put a few tacks down to make sure it was aligned ok then just kept tacking every 2in or so round and round and round, to make sure i put as little heat into it as possible. Dressed off the weld a bit and that was that.

I was measured in the holding area at Silverstone over Easter at 102dB @ 4500, thats no pre cats or main cat, but standard silencer.

Iain
