I am transplanting an MGTF 160 engine, box, and loom into another car from a rolled write off. I have the ign key and security code but no fob. I also found the manual and followed the instructions for disabling the immobiliser but still no joy.

I have done a bit of prep work ensuring that bonnet switch, rear boot lock all are closed. Also had to fix a fault with the central locking not working on the passenger door just in case. I am assuming the hood doesn't have a trigger on it as its mangled half open?

When I unlock the door the flashing red light goes out now, but on opening the door it comes on solid, on pos2 on the ign switch the bleeper goes off and no cranking.

If I try to unlock the door then leave it closed, the light is off but when I get to pos2, no cranking and bleeper again.

I have checked the number on the rover computer via 2 dealers so I believe it to be correct. I have manually entered it via the Drivers door 5 times now, but hey.

The options are as follows

Order new FOB with code in it 3rd party only, hoping I have the right code!

ECU goes off gets hacked to a new 3rd party immobiliser module comes back matched, no need for FOB ever!.

I buy the kit to do the above ECU Hack myself, useful if I ever change ECU's or do the same conversion again!!! only works on MEM3 systems though.

Anyone out there been through this?? I want to make sure it all runs before stripping it out.

Thanks

Joe

I built my Libra with an MGF MEMS2 engine and box and the ECU, 5AS unit and key fobs were aligned by Avon Automotive Diagnostics (I can find their phone number if you like), but I know that Gareth and Dudley at Talon Sportscars have Rover ECU programming stuff and advertise it on their website. Both will be at Stoneleigh over the Bank Holiday weekend.

I have looked at there site, did you go for the immobiliser interface kit, that replaces the feed from the 5AS unit? or did you just get all your existng kit sorted and working?

Did you retain the fob on your build? I only ask as I doubt I will need on what I am building as doors are an option!

Thanks

GTM supply a loom for the 5AS unit, but as the 5AS and ECU were from different cars and the fobs were of unknown origin I just had everything matched up. My Libra is fairly basic. The doors don't have swithes, there's no central locking...... The immobiliser doesn't even self-arm, but I''m thinking of getting Talon to program it to do that. You could do a lot worse than give Duds or Gareth a ring.

Managed to get hold of a widget that may unlock the system, but no idea where to plug it in, I have some pics here http://silicon.fastnet.co.uk/speciali anyone recognise the connector?

Joe - the connector looks like the small one on the 5AS immobiliser, or the std diagnostic plug - which is how the techie talks to the immobiliser.

Talon will be at Stoneleigh this Sun / Mon with their Rover ECU alignment gear. Bring it all up for them to look at.

I wish I could make it up there, the car was badly rolled still cutting through the screen which was flattened down once off I will be able to get the 5AS out and send it along with the ECU, I am right on the south coast. Hopefull get it out today.

The blip thingy was a shot in the dark, I will have to send it off to get a new blip anyway.

Cheers
