Maplins mini suction mount
Discussion
Just nipped down to Maplins in Leeds to buy one of those little mini suction mounts.
I remember a thread about them on this section a while ago and its take me that long to get off my butt and buy one
Cracking little piece of kit, suited nicely to the windscreen of my 7 series....gonna make me some movies now

Definitely....wouldnt try sticking it to the outside of the car though ![]()
only problem is having to hang the camera upside down....easily rectified though
Why not? It depends on the camera, but a compact is no problem at all up to 60mph. This was taken at about 15mph and IIRC was stuck to the surface of the wingmirror or the top of the front wing. Easily within reach to hit the button on a 2 second timer and snap:
Interior shots are not as good as there is alot of reflection. You can clearly see the air vent, and in other shots, dirt on teh screen was clearly visible too
. But some cropping and editing would bring it about better. City Hall, Dublin:

The cheap Maplin's one??!!!!
If so I'm impressed!
With the maplins one if you are careful when you fix it, and use a very flat clean surface, there is very little that will budge it. My D70+18-70 lens was physically impossible to move unless you unscrewed the mount and levered it off.
As a test, stick it on your window and try to pull it off without a camera on it.
Problem is not that it will fall off, but that it doesn't support the camera enough to avoid wobble if the camera weighs anything more than a few hundred grams.
I am thoroughly impressed by this tiny piece of kit...like stated before though, the only drawback is that it doesnt have the ability to support bigger camcorders.
My JVC GRDX28EK seems to be pretty stable though for a heavier camcorder
I couldnt get the suction mount to stick to the metal work, but on the glass its unmoveable!!
Im gonna find somewhere quiet this week and try out a few different angles

i'm thinking camcorder + motorcyle!
Got some great footage of my mate binning a GSXR600 on the long double apex right.
You hear the footpeg scraping for ages then whoosh!...a low slide with Paul following the bike on his hands and knees as far as the grass then everything spins so much you feel sick! Martin.

Awesome picture...what camera you using?
Just a Canon Ixus compact. Thanks
.
Awesome...that picture is quality!
If the weather holds out Im thinking of paying a visit towards Leeds & Bradford Airport to test my camera and mount out....hmmmm tunnels
I saw one of these this morning, I did wonder, and hey presto a thread!
I have a bullet cam for my motorbike/snowboarding, and wondered if this would support it without too much vibration.
I bottled out of the purchase (I have enough gear to carry with me to spain this year) but im tempted to go back and get it on the way home now!
Maybe some rigging with rubber bands and velco near the tip of the camera to suck up some vibration?
