Hi. I seem to have the usual problems with my haydraulic clutch on my series 2 350i, as in i don't have one any more. All the fluid in the reservoir seems to have vanished without trace!
Having read various forums and the fears of the engine/gearbox out kind of work, was just wondering whether there are any pitfalls to fitting a new slave cylinder (ie.how do i do it?) . Also, a previous posting stated that there was a pattern/motor factors part available and if so, does anyone know what vehicle its from/part number this is?
The bible states that the master cylinder is a TVR 'special'. Is this correct or has anyone found an aftermarket replacement for this also?

Changing them both is quite simple really. Just check which one you need. If you have a wet carpet drivers footwell then it's probably the master cylinder, if you have a wet area by the hole in the bottom of the bell housing then probably the slave cylinder.
Mind you on my 350 I found that were I kept taking the slave of to cure a leak and refitting, that I had damaged the pipe flange, which never made a decent seal and was leaking from this. Put a new flange on both ends and all was then fine.
Can't help with part no's as can't remember, but seemed easier to replace whole slave than reseal it, think I got mine from RT for about £50. the master looks like a Ford Capri ? but don't know if TVR modded it

On my 350i II both, slave and master, are standard Rover SD1. Don't know part numbers.
When taking the slave cylinder off, you only need to be careful not to pull out the pushrod and/or dislodge the clutch bearing lever within the bellhousing. Not to difficult.

IIRC the master was the same as that used on the TR6. As if that helps

The clutch master changed several times on the Wedges but not as much as the brake master cylinder where some 7 different ones have been used. The main body is fairly common but the real killer is the push rod and fitting. That is pretty well specific to a TVR. get the wrong one and the clutch feel may be compromised or it may lead to premature failure as the angles involved cause issues.

If you go to a race supplies catalogue, they have a range of Girling master cylinders with remote reservoirs, in 5/16, 0.7 and 3/4 inch bores, and have three different lengths of push rod available - they are also cheaper than the SD1 part (5/16) or the most common wedge fitment (0.70" ).

Oh the other thing to watch out for is different size hydraulic fittings. Imperial switching to metric is common but I have experienced a different size. May need a new pipe to be made up.
