I got a Trial for Racing on the Highway
Discussion
Erm... not meaning to sound downbeat but find out where the bus stops are. Whether you plead guilty or innocent is almost certainly irrelevant if the Police have got evidence of your road racing activities... in short you are (rightly IMHO) buggered on this one.
While you're off doing your (probably lenghtly) ban, consider getting a motorsport licence and then you can do some proper motor racing on track where it's safe, and where you will hopefully have less risk of killing someone else on the same road.
Is there a bright side? Well I just hope you don't end up picking up soap in the showers at Strangeways.

The other guy pleaded guilty and im pleading not guilty.
He got a 2Year ban.........HOW HARSH
if thats what u get for pleading guilty **** it...
any advice?
I personnally think a two year ban is not harsh enough!!! Its people like that that make the rest of us suffer through even harsher traffic laws!!!
Better get used to the smelly, unreliable, slow public transport system.
Serves him right!
Race tracks are for racing, roads are for driving- it's people like this that cause us car lovers, fans & racers to have such high road insurance costs!
From past threads, this guy needs his car for his job too.....should have had more consideration for the important things in life, like other people's lives for a start.
I bet that if he was on a racetrack, he'd hit the armco at T1.
Absolutely no sympathy whatsoever ....... rant over.

I don't recall having said I use the public highway as a grand prix circuit??? I save my "Red Mist" for the track.
I may occasionally "bend" speed limits, as we all do, but never just to beat the person in front. At the traffic light grand prix, I don't need to prove I can beat the car next to me, because 9 times out of 10, I more than likley can. And what is the point of having a go at a car/bike that you know is going to cane you if he tries, and if he does't try, you look like a real twat.
Its not only dangerious, but is also discurtious to other road users, especially the one that you will no doubt hit eventually. It should be dealt with accordingly!

You red mist on the trak hmm strange. Do youu even know what the term means
OK. Lets get things in perspective here. Racing on the Highway is dangerous and illegal and, if you do it and are caught, you only have yourself to blame and can expect harsh treatment by the law.
But how many PHers have put the right foot down hard when the idiot behind tailgates a little - just to see if the Tiv in front will go? And then....when that idiot behind starts to catch up because they're willing to break the speed limit that little bit more - put the foot to floor again.
Is that racing? Could be.... It could also be attempting to open up a safe braking distance behind. Depends on the circumstances, doesn't it.
So...although none of us would condone road racing. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone eh?
And MapCop. Don't you dare chuck one at him.

Yes I have, but only while accelarating to the speed I want to travel at. If the guy eventually catches up and continues to sit on my bumper, then I'm more likely to slow down than speed up - idiots are better off in front than behind you, specially if they have their front fog lights on
If I was to 'race' on the road like I do on the track (big overtaking maneuvers, occasional trading of paintwork etc) then I agree that is dangerous and clearly shouldn't be done.
What the Law would see as 'road racing', however, is a totally different ball game. I regularly go out for a drive with my friends, driving fast in convoy. Most would see this as 'racing' but we never attempt to overtake each other and certainly don't perform any heroic overtaking maneuvers.
In the same vein, I don't see what’s wrong when somebody comes up behind you and you put your foot down to see if they can keep up.
You have to have a bit of colour entering your life occasionally and I, personally, love coming across somebody else on the public highway who is willing to put their foot down and have a good drive alongside me.

Well, Andy, that is the right thing to do. If they want to overtake badly enough then let them. But come on...every last time?
Like I say...I'm not condoning anything. Just pointing out that there are degrees of these things and that none of us should view ourselves as *completely* innocent...I'm sure zeroprobe will learn his lesson the *very* hard way....
I presume that no-one here knows the actual circumstances except you - though many soapboxes are in evidence.
You know if you were "having a go"; if you genuinely believe your innocence (and it is possible that the other guy was racing you without the inverse being the case) take legal advice. You only have one day in court, so don't roll over if right is on your side.

Zeroprobe, wanna refresh peoples memory as to what exactly happened?
By definition I think almost everyone has "raced", if race means to drive competatively. ie, virtually any traffic light, roundabout, slip road, or road narrowing. We all would prefer to be the one in front, and I atleast make sure that I am. So that's racing, and technically could be in court for it. How stupid.
And how irritating that some of you lot condemn out of hand. I'd almost have thought I was reading a post from an anti-car site...
