My temporary back plates.

After struggling to get hold of some carbon fibre at a resonable price to mount my new trumpets in I had to hurridly make a new back plate for my air boxes due to the old pipes having collapsed and the risk of lumps of fibreglasss being sucked into my engine.

So here they are:

New steel outlets for attaching to the crossover pipes.



Back plates with damaged outlets removed.



Pipes mounted in back plates with sealant ready to fit to airboxes



Plates mounted in airboxes and a slightly nicer colour.



Not the best job in the world but it got me running that weekend and will be safe until the new trumpets and back plates are made.

ridds, excellent job. My airboxes could do with the same treatment, the fibreglass has collapsed quite badly. Where did you source the trumpets from?

I made them.

63mm steel tube cut into 50mm lengths with the ends flarred over.

You need to remove the old outlets as the new steel items won't fit though.

Hats off to you for the work , can just about get my head around cars and how they work, however whenever I try to do anything myself my hands seem to become about as useful as a couple of club hammers and my brain that of a complete idiot, inevitably I usually break more stuff than I fix.

How did you get the steel tubes flared?

How did you make the back plates, the look like pressings?

Yes 4.5 airboxes.

Back plates are the originals with the stubs removed.

Pipes were flarred with a bloody great press and a forming die.

Got the same problem (common apparrently!?) and could do with the same job doing on mine! Fancy it? How much? Where are you?
I take it you can have this done at a TVR sevice centre/garage? Purple pipe keeps coming off mine. Should I stop using the car until it is mended? How do you know if you have lost a bit of fibre into the engine...........assume I would know about it!!?

Only way you'll know somehting has gone through is it won't be there any more and it won't be in the airbox.

Don't see why I can't do some more really. The hardest bit is seperating the back plates from the airboxes.

I'm in Worthing West Sussex.

I'll see how much the steel costs (might find out about Ally tbh as it's lighter and easier to work with).

I'm also looking into some proper trumpet back plates. Just need to find out prices for the trumpets and plates.

Impressive work Ridds - I think you may well have discovered a way to help finance your Cerb

Looked into the price of the metal, and time for the fab etc.

All in, tubes supplied, cut and flared, then fitted to the back plates (old outlets removed) I reckon about £50 + postage (postage would be cheaper if you remove the back plates from the airboxes due to their bulk).
