Hi all,

Just put my deposit on a 968 Sport from the classifieds. Lots of extras and a low mileage car with a lever arch file of history. Picking it up in 2 weeks.

www.pistonheads.com/sales/73869.htm

I expect to be asking lots of dumb questions, so please bear with me!

V excited. Can't wait to go out and play.

Would seem to be a cracker. Never seen a car so anally cared for by all previous owners (obviously in a good way ).

The KW Variant 3 shocks, big red's, 1/2 cage, M030 ARB, K&N air filter, ss sports exhaust, chip, clubsport seats, 4 point harnesses, fully adjustable GT3 top monts for camber, fsh and generally very good condition. Can't wait.

That car looks spot on - nice one!

Bet your first question will be "how do I reset the trip counter?" !

Bloody hell that looks nice. Add a supercharger and it'd be pretty much perfect!

Just read your profile - how's the supercharger doing? Have you found any downsides to it? My initial thought is it might be fun, but sounds like a good way to blow my engine and invite some massive bills.

No downsides, I'm delighted with it - on normal enthusiastic road driving, it even has better fuel consumption now (i.e. more MPG), presumably because I don't need to rev it high as often, and because the engine is operating closer to peak cylinder filling everywhere in the rev range.

Due to the low boost, peak BMEP isn't much higher than the N/A car - the N/A car has intake stack supercharging (i.e. resonance in the intake pipes causing a ram-air effect) at high revs, and the supercharger merely gives this overpressure everywhere in the rev range rather than just at the top. As a result I'm not expecting it to blow my engine up or cause any mechanical maladies. Only thing I can guess at is shorter clutch lifetime due to the greater torque low down, though I don't tend to slip the clutch a lot in general.

The only downside I can think of is that if the supercharger fails, it could be tricky to fix quickly since I'd only want 9m to do it, and parts for the kit may take some time to source (it's a kit from the USA). Other than that, nothing. Insurance was a bit extra until I put the car on a classic policy, which immediately cut the bill to less than half. Your 968 is the same age so I'd definitely recommend a classic policy if you're not doing mega miles.

The supercharger option for the 968 is however a centrifugal blower which is different to the Eaton unit I have, with a different power delivery and IIRC actually a higher peak power output! From my experience though I'd strongly recommend both supercharging these cars in general and 9m's work specifically. That 968 would be a *seriously* quick car with 350 bhp after all... and you've already got the suspension and brakes to handle it. Go on...

It would make it a serious piece of kit wouldn't it. I expect it will do me as it is, and if I get the the point that the organic bit behind the wheel (me) isn't the car's limiting factor (which I'm not sure will ever happen), I think more power will be on the cards.

Managed to annoy my girlfriend with it already though. Told her I'd need to loose a few pounds so I fitted into the bucket seats a little less snugly. She's wanted me to loose the man-boobs for ages, and I've never bothered. I buy a car and suddently I'm going on a diet for it! She already thinks I love it more than I love her.

I'm seriously jealous mate. I've just had to accept the fact that I'll have to wait 1-2 years before going for a 968. Beautiful car and that looks like a beautiful example. The black really suits the car - as do some of the other darker colours

It goes without saying that you'll enjoy it. Have fun!
