The weekend brought me a choice: A) Visit the in-laws B) Find an excuse to stay at home to drive and then clean the Tiv - I find myself thinking what to do. 2 seconds later decision made. Flu symtoms return preventing me travelling in the car to the in-laws so I am left at home, just me and my motor!
After a blast around, choosing carfefully the route so as not to hit ice, salt, etc. I find the bodywork remains remarkably clean and requires only a gentle wash.

5 hours later in the garage with a lamp find myself covered in crap having decided to turn my attention to underneath then onto the engine.
Girlfriend home, not impressed....

It's not there yet but it's getting there. Happy with the oil filler cap minus split plastic orange bit. Sad maybe.....but I bet I am not the only one... help!

No gunk or water either! Just a bit of WD40 and a load of rags!

Nick

Very nice mate! Think you've inspired me to do mine too!! Funny, isn't it, girls moan about us not doing enough cleaning, and then moan when we do too!!

Also, was your exhaust manifold that shiney beforehand?? As mine is kind of rust coloured (older car though - '95 4.0l)

Cheers - the manifold needed some work - I used some metal claening paste from Halfords, forget the name and it brought it up a treat. Could still do with some more treatment though so if anyone knows of what to use?

I was careful not to disturb anything though as I would have been gutted ot have had a shiny engine that didnt go - hence no gunk/ water.

I have heard that wire-wool and metal polish works well on the stainless manifold etc. I tried for a short time but it didn't make much of an impression. I may try Solvol Autosal (that stuff like toothpaste) with some wire-wool next. Have to polish after to get all evidence of STEEL wool off othwise it will go rusty!

What do Delorean owners polish their cars with?

Very nice indded. But I'd be interested in another pic once you've put a couple of hundred miles on - just to see if it's worth all the elbow grease!

You have a fair point Mick!

Still got me out of a trip to the in-laws. Probably a one off as once I look under the bonnet in a few weeks to find all my hard work undone.........
