after considerable dithering, and taking on boards wifes opinions on what my life will be like after birth of child #2 in about 4 weeks time, the option of getting a gt3rs or indeed any track day machine has been given the heev - ho.

so have now put a deposit down on a cancelled order c4s for delivery in june / july.

spec i have put together is as follows:

basalt black with black leather
stitching in contrasting red
porsche embossed head rests
sports seats
fully carbon fibred up interior
sport design wheels
sports exhaust
sports chrono pack plus
sat nav
sports shifter
auto dim mirrors etc
coloured wheel centres (aka the please bargepole me option)
bose

that should do the trick.

only thing i was considering was getting the gt3 kit. and then getting it in guards red. any opinions on this...?

Rob

nice spec mate and I hope it all goes well for you.

I have seen a few 997s now with the sports aero pack on them (aka GT3) and I think they looks the nuts and sets the car off so well. not sure where you are based but there is a nice one at guildford and chiswick AFNs for sale! they look great in the darker colours too plus with the wide arches then really menacing!

I have a lowly 996 C2 with the GT3 kit and it makes the car looks so much more special than the normal 996s I see everyday.

ok some say it ruins the lines and makes them look fussy but it was the car & kit I fell in love with years ago at le mans when one went ripping past by camping blue!!

just my 2c

GT3 kit does look very nice. How much does it cost though?

PS: Don't listen to the wife !!! Are you really going to stick 2 babies and all their assorted kit in the back of a C4S?

kit costs about 4k once you've got side skirts. it does look good i know, but also makes you look like a wannabe.

kids and stuff aren't going in the car. this is for me. kids and wife stay in the mondeo or the mini.

just my personal opinion but I would ditch the red stitching and all the carbon bits (which I think looks cheap even though it most certainly isn't) and get a leather centre console (to replace plastic looking std one) and adaptive sports seats

Yep, I would probably do it for 4k on a new car.

So is your wife saying you won't have time for track days, hence no point getting the RS?

Have you considered a used 996 TT X50, I'm just wondering if you might be a bit underwhelmed with the C4S after a GT2? Not that I've driven a 997 C4S.

Then why not get the more focussed machine? If the kids will never go int the back - why have the rear seats at all?

The man has a point

Have you considered the full leather dash? Arguably does more for cabin ambience than lots of carbon.

The 997 looks fabulous with the aerokit - a real show-stopper. Why not save a few shillings towards it by going for a C2S? Unless it snows a lot where you are, why bother with the added weight and complication? It's not as though 911s are a handful anymore, plus you'll lose a bit of front bootspace once it's perched on top of 'stabiliser wheel' front drivetrain.

Just a thought. Your spec looks fab, and Guards Red would be my colour, though I'm getting more and more keen on the Cobalt Blue the more I see of it. Personally, I also like the carbon bits. It's worth specifying the inner door sill finishers in leather too, IMO. The plastic ones look crap and scuff easily, and the leather ones aren't too expensive.

Edited because I should check my spelling more carefully before I post.

Minor observation, but isn't the C2S a better buy than the C4S?

It might be worth considering that the 997 Turbos new electronic 4wd system will find its way on to c4's in the not to distant future so these will be the sort after second hand ones, personally I’d go for the C2s or if you don’t need the rear seats then the GT3.

Similar thoughts, yes GT3 pack, I would ditch the embossed head rests, but keep the red stitching, ditch the carbon bits but would go for a painted center tunnel instead of leather.

I would aslo concurr with the c2s instead of the c4s save weight and money.

What about wheels painted in Body colour? they look great on a black car!

And i may well ditch the C4s for a C2S

Cheers

driven both 2S and 4S

my immediate thought afterwards was

4S £69,900 plus (obligatory) PSE £1,160 = £71,060
2S £65,860 plus perf kit (includes PSE) £8,241 = £74,101

= best £3k option Porsche option (despite £8k being a rip off for the extra horses)

I'm almost certainly speccing sport suspension rather than PASM for my '07 997 C2 or C2S.

My current 996 C2 has the sport suspension and it is just right, the standard or PASM 997s are too soft, and if you were considering a GT3 then you should think about sport suspension.

If the kids aren't going in the car get the new GT3 with the PSM option (in red if you like!).

I'm afraid I don't see how anyone can go from enjoying a GT2 to driving a porsche with significantly less power. Definitely take a test drive before buying.
