read great stuff about the boxster s, but until the 987 came out, never really fancied one. seriously tempted now. can anyone with a 987 boxster s tempt me into buying one??

why should i??

had an m3, but sold due to house move. how does the 's' feel compared to an m3 for example??

need answers before i make yet another mad financial decision.

The 987S is a terrific little roadster - fast, superb handling, beautifully engineered, comfortable, practical, easy to live with, always enjoyable and, with heated seats and the wind deflector, you can drop the roof whenever it's dry.

Of course you could order a new one to your own perfect spec, but you could save up to £10k on a good used one.

Wonderful

Lovely cars, don't buy from an OPC though, use a good independant. Where abouts in the country are you?

Personally, I would buy from an OPC. The good ones are very good.

However, as a cash buyer, I would phone around towards the end of the month (ie now) to see what they've got and what their bottom line would be. They all have monthly targets so be prepared to negotiate up to the 11th hour.

Bear in mind that prices may start to pick up as the temperatures rise.

Best value though might be a private sale.

owned a 986S, rented an M3 for 2 weeks

aside from the obviou accommodation differences:

similarly quick
M3 sounded better as it was noisier but get a spets exhaust on the Boxster and you will be fine
both handled very well
steering on Porsche way better (M3 was appallingly over-servoed IMHO)
PSM is much better than DSC - found M3 nanny aids kicked in far quicker than PSM esp. in wet
interiors both very nice and good quality

overall both terrific cars but Boxster felt a bit more "special" as a driving experience

Owned a 986S, M3 and currently in a 987S. The Boxster is a more complete sports car than the M3. It is not as quick as the M3 is but the overall package is so much better. Far more feel and feedback with the 987.

A friend of mine bought his S from RSJ in Slough, I went there and the cars were very nice, but sadly I couldn't test drive one so I bought mine at West London Porsche, who were very good, but the car was maybe not in the condition I excpected of them, they are having it back to recify the faults in a month so I'll hold judgement until then, I was maybe a bit hasty with my advising not to buy from the OPC, but I was annoyed, I've since been for another spin the the car and I think we're beginning to gel
