Has anyone out there got any experience or recommendations for alternative motorsport events to Le Mans that would offer the same mix of cars (or bikes) sun, beer etc. Le Mans is great, but it's only once a year. I could do with a top up of the experience sometime in late summer.

I've considered the Isle of Man TT, but it's always a few weeks before Le Mans which isn't good timing.

Well off the top of my head, theres....
The Bike 24 hours at Le Man
24 hour race at Spa
24 hour race at the old Nuremburg
Not sure on dates for these but I'm sure a quick Google search would do the trick

The Nurberg Ring 24hr is normally the weekend after Le Mans normally. Obviously, the same teams don't run.
When I looked into it I hesitated as it didn't appear to be as much of a spectacle.

They have caterhams and M3s, but nothing like the prototypes. It all seemed rather amateur in comparison.

Won't manage to Le Mans this Year so alternative later in the Year with similar formula (beer, beer, stupid camp chair plane on track) would be good. Warm weather would be good but if in Europe later in the Year guess that is less likely? What about F1 Monza? Think that is in Sep time?

What about Goodwood ? Has anyone any experience of the Goodwood festival of speed ? I've always meant to go but never made it. Is it the sort of place that has campsites with barbies and beer walls or is it a bit more straight laced than that ?

Goodwood is an excellent weekend (if a little expensive). I agree that perhaps it is a bit straight laced but given the access and value of exotica on show I can totally support the straight laced stance.

I would be up for a PH do though, perhaps a camp site away for Goodwood itself, so that a good brash piss-up could be had!!

Other than that, perhaps the BGP could be a possible candidate, never camped there since I live a stones through away.
