Just a cautionary note...I use Red Stuff all round on the race car, and they take maybe two laps of racing to get right up to temperature. Be careful in the morning ok!!!

Guys
I am looking to upgrade my 500 brakes, so my question is what size discs did you go for on teh EBC route. I have used these before and they are great, but not sure if size needs to be increased in teh Chim?

Second question, why Red Stuff, on a car as light as teh Chim surely green stuff v4 would be more than capable for fast road use and occassional track days, and as they don't need to heat up why choose reds?

I guess you can get them, but on my 3000M Turbo, I put Ferodo DS2500 pads on..they really do make a difference. I'll be using them when my Chim ones run out if possible..

Oh and just to add, I use un-drilled and un-grooved discs all round on the advice of the guys at WMS who I've been developing the alloy 4-pot calipers with.

Apparently the synthetic resins pad manufacturers make the friction material from don't vapourise like the organic resins used in the past, hence all grooves and holes do is induce vibration and cause potential areas for cracks to start.

Chim 500 are only 260mm - so pointless if you REALLy want to increase the power get a 285 disc kista dn std calipe spaces.

I have alway found std 500 brake to be rubbish.

So who sells these kits & who manufactures them, i'd rather not uprate callipers if possible?

I have fitted the EBC Red Stuff (Ceramic) pads and they bite very well from cold. I think the older red stuff pads needed warming up, but the newer ones labelled ceramic are very good from cold.

Morning Andy. I fitted 285 mm discs and callipers off E bay (£165.00) from Granada scorpio cossie... I THINK they are the same as two wheel drive Escort cossie but not sure. The callipers dont look bigger but they are deeper and they have a lot bigger pad... The only modification was drilling the calliper mounting holes out to 1/2 inch and a couple of 2mm spacers to clear mounting to disc.... The brakes are now pretty good. Very progresive and plenty powerful enough with good feed back. I have no issues with any front bias probs either...Steve.

A must for fast road - first think I did on both my 500's (std so crap) bu then I am a tad hard on brakes - but they should have been better!

(Big Al please delete this if you deem it's against the posting rules)

The company who I've been working with on the alloy brake caliper kits for Chimaera's has just started flogging them on eBay.

I wouldn't know mine was/is a 4litre which originally came with the 240mm discs, hence I really did need to look for a upgrade for track use

I believe the Marc Hockin Griff 500 is still running stock calipers which probably explains why I almost ran into his arse the corner after he lapped me last time out.

or maybe Marc knew the correct braking point and line? You can't argue with his speed !
Or maybe he's fast depsite his brakes .. or maybe his brakes are just fine.

Most people who run out of brakes are shedding too much speed for the corners, a popular novice/inexperience/limited talent trend, or have had substandard pads fitted, a popular dealer trend

I still run the 260mm front discs and solid rear discs on my S and have no intention of changing anytime soon, they're great

I have just upgraded my brakes on my 4.0 with 285mm grooved discs with ali billet 4 pot calipers, supplied in a kit from TVRcarparts,
I wanted to fit the largest discs possible without changing the wheel size 15".
Spoke to TVRcarparts whom sugested this upgrade, received them on Friday and I fitted them last weekend, I am very pleased with them, so much so I have ordered new rear ones today.
Apart from the obvious change in performance they look good too.

Yes Joo, it's amazing what an extra (allegedly) 135bhp can do for you.

Power is the worst way to make your car faster .. Marc's car is fast because it's well prepared, well set up, well driven and money spent in the right areas. Watch and learn

I can't imagine that the brakes would have remained standard if they were a weak point, though I haven't asked him so I stand to be corrected ..
