A little help if you please!

I recently bought a Panasonic NV GS250 and am pretty happy with the quality and ease of use etc.

But...

The main reason for buying it was to film trackdays in the car. Now, with optical image stabalisation off (as I was told to do in order to make it look like your going faster) the picture is a joke. So wobbly that you can't make out a thing.

With OIS on, the picture is better but still rubbish. When I brake and there is a little judder, the image vibrates so heavily that again you can't make out a thing.

I am using a tightly clamped manfrotto G-clamp onto the roll bar and its all very solid in its mount.

I wonder if ,

a) The camera is not doing what it should do.

b) Electronic stabalisation would have been a much better bet?

c) Hard disc cameras are better due to no moving parts being vibrated?

d) I wish I had bought a cheap av-in cam and bullet, now.

I did use a friends JVC cam on track a while back and it was fine really.

I think I might have to sell this cam (only having used it once ) and find another way.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

The camera is doing what it should, it's just that there is only so much it can do

b) Electronic stabalisation would have been a much better bet?
vehicle shake is EXTREMELY hard to compensate unless you are prepared to invest in cinema quality steadycams

c) Hard disc cameras are better due to no moving parts being vibrated?
Until the heads crash with all the vibration

d) I wish I had bought a cheap av-in cam and bullet, now.
Your solution may lay in post production...

(you need Adobe Premier to use it, but it works a treat)

I used the same mount attached to the Noble roll cage with a Sony camera - no problems at all, the video was fine without OIS, even with Walshy driving during a sprint at North Weald

See thats what makes me think there is something wrong.

I also used Alex S's JVC cam on my mount at Bedford a few weeks back and there was no problem either. My cam with OIS on is rubbish!!

I just wonder if EIS is far better at stabalising proper vibration shake that OIS (ie, electronic better than optical)

It makes sense to assume that as the electronic IS will just presumably slow the shutter speed slightly, wheras OIS will try to do it with moving parts that will also wobble.

Wonder if I could improve it a lot by manually slownig down the shutter rate or Frames per sec rate?
