987 - More Problems
Discussion
Since we bought the car in December it has been in the dealer 3 times for a total of nearly 2 weeks.
This morning the same problem occured as previously (immobiliser system) along with a strange 'rattle' noise which is coming from the engine.
At 9.30am I phoned porsche. No-one in service & left a message on the answer service. At 12.15pm had not recieved a call back.
Just spoken to them (me phoning then again) to be told they are extremely busy & that they cannot look at the car for a couple of week. No hire cars available either.
After mentioning that this is a recurring problems, which last time resulted in the car being completely 'dead', I do not really want the girlfriend driving around in it if the same is going to happen again. They said they may be able to hire a car in from 'enterpise' or the like although it would be an Astra or equivalent.
Now if it was only for a day or so then I could live with it, but they won't look at it for 2 weeks & then if its the same as before they will have it another weeks, ie 3 weeks in total.
The car cost over £45,000.
Is this acceptable ? Doesn't seem right to me.

How about a call to Porsche UK? Get them to give the dealer a rocket.
I've always heard good things about Porsche when you have a problem and them giving you a replacement car right away, taking the pain away etc. My neighbour had a 2001 996 which had one or two problems, some rental company dropping off a high spec car each time for him. Surely a new car has at least this level of 'cover'.

As much as it may rankle with you I'd take up their offer of the hire car from Enterprise and get the car in now even if it might take them 3 weeks. I'd think that if hire charges are accruing they'd look to get the car finished sooner rather than later and you might well see the car again before 3 weeks is up.
Good luck anyway.
Mine has to go back for the horn to be fixed. When I rang our local OPC to book the car in to have it repaired I was asked, rather sarcastically, what wasn't working about it?......erm......it doesn't go off when the wheel boss is pressed!? If he think's i'm messing around trying to fix it whilst it's under warranty he's got another think coming...!

I'll give the service guy another 15 minutes to phone me (assuming he may have been on his lunch) at which point I shall be phoning back.
In all honesty up to now, even though the car has been a complete ballache, the dealer has always sorted us out with a car, albeit never a Porsche (must get a GT2 eventually, surely).
I suspect they are busy fixing the Cayman/Boxster gearbox/clutch problems at present.
Whats the chance they'll give me a full refund if I agree to sign up for a 997 ?
I think I already know the answer to my last question. F@ck all

id make some noise, tell them if your call aint returned in 30 mins your going to make your 5 min journey to them and make sure everyone in the place knows what issues your having, mabe tell them to call for police assistance if your call is not returned becuase if you come down it will be needed
ditto the porsche assist route, could also work, but less fun than the more aggressive route.

Unfortunately they treat nice people as if they were non-existant. If you get really mad and make a lot of noise you get the attention you deserve. Take your car and park it in their entrance and keep the keys, and if you are only 5 mins away tell them that they can phone you when they have a loan car for you. Good luck
Hadd a simlair experience with my 996tt. Car went back 5 time in 3 months mostly to fix the same problem. I got to know porsche assist and the car rental company well. No excuse for not returning calls or fixing the car. One time I got the car taken away on a flat bed 30 minutes after delivery with the same problem (ABS and PSM failure).

Porsche Assist is there for this. Why bother ringing up and getting stressed?
Give PA a ring, they collect the car and drop you off a high spec loaner.
As its costing money to give you a loaner, your repair gets priority.
Happy days.
I'm looking out at my Porsche Assist loaner right now ... Primera.
One hubcap's missing (yep , they're still making hubcaps) , there's a shittie scrape on the rear wheel arch , a dent on the bonnet , and it stinks so much of ciggies , my eyes water if I don't have all the windows permanently down.
HIGH SPEC MY ARSE!
ok , I'm going to stop moaning bout my loaner now , promise ... I'm never going to mention what a sh1tbox it is ,ever ever again. That's it , done , out of my system for good , over and out , happy days ... sorted.
