What measures of security would you guys suggest is sufficient for your campsites at Le Mans? Are there usually many pikey frogs that hang around waiting to poach off an unsuspecting drunk brit?

Do be careful!
Last year 2 friends both who do not drink! had their bum bags taken whilst asleep.Money taken, car opened, labtop stolen etc etc. When they went to the police station they meet one poor guy who`s Lambo had been opened and they decided to have a s*** in it..nice...followed by slashing his tyres.I would say keep anything special down your pants as i am sure there will plenty of pikey`s again this year.
Hope this helps? Not meant to be a scare story but it could happen to you

Fingers crossed, been 4 times so far on various campsites, and we've had no bother so far. Even left the bbq, tables and chairs , bottle openers etc out overnight with nothing taken.

If someone is sad enough to want the nick your sleeping bag from your tent or something, not much one can do

Obviously serious value stuff , you just hide from open view and lock away in your Vehicle.

One of our team had a scooter stolen.
however, he did leave it in our marquee.

Just put stuff out of site and all should
be ok.
Only ever seen the Pikeys on the last day
rummerging through the crap left by the
boys returning to Blighty.

Pikey's should be rounded up and used for car bowling on sunday;

everyone who has bought a ticket gets to drive straight at a big formation of them and gets points for the most take downs...

As said being sensible adds greatly to your chances of not being done over.

The big danger point is the start of the race and to some extent Friday as often lots of people are off site.

Make friends with your neighbours and ask them to keep an eye on things if you're going out. Otherwise don't leave valuables in sight - lock everything out of sight in a car and keep the keys about your person. Rumour has it that someone had a car nicked from MB last year having left the keys for it on a table in a motorhome awning overnight

Take your rucksuck/bumbag into the sleeping compartment of your tent at night and keep it away from the door - that way someone's got to be really desparate to go for it. Mainly they are looking for easy pickings, make it hard for them and they'll go after some other sucker!!

This will be our 11th year never had serious problems apart from some b......d laying a very large t..d by our gazebo

However we do take care to keep any valuable kit out of sight etc. We also camp at Arnage which is much smaller than the main camping areas (less Pikeys)and we always bung the attendant a few euros to keep an eye on things.

From memory all you need to get on the camp sites (on foot) is a general entrance ticket, that can be picked up at the main entrance on the day (for E39 on the Sunday).

If your in one of the 'local' camp sites (Tetre Rouge/Maison Blanche/Chapelle) your more at risk than those a good hoof away from things (The Houxs/Basejour).

That said most people are the good guys and everyone tends to keep an eye on each others camp sites. Your biggest risk times are:
- Start/Finish (almost everyone trackside so easy to wonder to the back of say MB and have a rummage).
- Friday afternoon/evening (quite a lot of people hit the town/Houx Annex roundabout so camp sites can be quiet).
- Sunday night/Monday (I don't know exactly WHEN they go, but at some point the gate people bugger off and the pikies just drive in and start to harvest anything that isn't nailed down . I REALLY wouldn't advise leaving your site unattended on the Monday).

We always stay with Airtrack - a secure campsite with fence and guards/Rotweilers on patrol...you can only get in with Airtrack ID/bands etc ...car park mostly full of exotica so no worries about the odd millionaire robbing your sleeping bag ...its quite expensive if you are on your own in a car, but 4 sharing in a saloon and its not bad value.

Some B~#@+RD stole my Lotus badge of the front of the Elise last year. Only minimal damage fortunately. And year before someone burnt a union jack I left on one of those window flag pole things.

There always the few who spoil things.

Had someone steal the hazzard warning switch button from my mates Spitfire in the Carrefore car park last year, which was a rather bizzar thing to take.

our general rule is keep everything out of site or locked in the cars. so far we have had nothing of value stolen. i lost my wallet last year and thankfully some nice english lady picked it up, phoned my brother in the uk (his business card was in it) he rang me and i collected it about 1/2 hour after loosing it there are nice people at le mans

Last time we went (about a dozen of us) we all had our tickets in those ticket holder thingies that go round your neck. However, some scrote still managed to nick a ticket from one of our party. Fair play to the organisers though, they issued us with a replacement - no questions asked. We got the feeling it was quite common.

put small valuables in your bum bag, then sleep with it in the bottom of your sleeping bag... keep larger items out of sight locked away in your car.
