Squeaking Brakes
Discussion
I recently had new disks and pads fitted all round on my 996tt. The disks are genuine Porsche whilst the pads are Textar which I am told are what Porsche use and then put their logo on the box. I used Textar pads on my 993tt without any problems.
The problem I have is that when I brake they squeak really loudly. Its like I'm driving a lorry! It is more pronounced when its wet or when I'm driving slowly (eg in traffic) and just having to brake gently to bring the car to a stop. They don't squeak if I'm braking simply to slow the car down without stopping or if I brake hard.
Any ideas what can be done about this please?

Tried this but they're still squeaking. Any other suggestions please?
Porsche OEM pads are Textar for the rear Jurid for the front. These pads have a anti-squeal metal shim on the non-friction side, this shim has a rubberised material to help reduce squeal. The front calipers use the adhesive block shim that fits into the piston and sticks to the pad. If you have used anti-squeal compound this stops this block shim sticking to the pad and therefore introducing squeal.

Hi Barry,
do yourself a favour and champher the leading edge of the brake pad it will solve your problem or better still get the dealer to do it. since the asbestos problem reared is nasty head it happens all the time. cheers graeme
Hi Barry,
If you look at the face of the pad the side is 90 degrees to the face ie. a right angle. If you put a 45 degree angle on the side of the leading edge of the brake pad just 1mm ie. looking at the nearside front brake caliper at the brake pad nearest you it is the edge at the bottom of the caliper if the brake calipers are behind the axle line or if they are in front of the axle line then it will be the top of the caliper. This will cure your problem. If you are not quite sure send me a pm with a contact number and i'll give you a call.
