door mirror mounting

On the mk2 wedge has anyone else got corrosion on the metal bit that fixes the fibreglass mirror housing to the door? Its got a dull grey coating on my mine (anyone know what the official colour is...?) but quite badly corroded in some places. Can the metal part be bought new, or is it a sand down and filler job?
