No point writing to PCGB, they are just the owners club and frankly won't be interested. You need to get in touch with Porsche UK at Reading. Apparently there's a very helpful lady there who's name escapes me, but appears on another recent thread somewhere else on this forum. I believe a number of GT3 MK1 owners had similar wear and tear arguments over synchro's put to them a few years back. When it was pointed out that the owners handbook refers to the car as one built for racing, they backed down and the problem was reolved. You just need to be polite and persistent.

Good Luck

They're also claiming that when the car was purchased from Reading by its previous owner in June 05 then this defiantly would have been picked up on the 111 point check.
Andy

if this had been picked up at the 111point check in 05 then porsche should/would have insisted on repaire beingcarried out before issuing the warranty. what tosh. if they issued a car a warranty without a competent check over this is hardly your problem. the car IS in warranty. and to claim gearbox degradation due to wear adn tear on a car with 19k on the clock is wriggling on the hook. Be patient. be persistent. dont back down!

You must be so dissapointed. So your car is undrivable due to no gearbox. Hope they have given you a curtesy car whilst you wait.

1)Keep it polite,
2)bullett points are good
3)keep it short.
4)put it in writing.

good luck

This magical 111 point inspection that the main dealers, (who everyone at the moment seem to be chastising for shortcomings in their workshops and who I`m not going to defend given our own Cayenne was due back from it`s 2 day service yesterday and as of 9.40am on the 3rd day no call has been received to explain the delay / chat over work required - although in fairness they never returned our calls to book the car in so at least they are consistant!).

Is the car actually road tested on this test ? I have a suspicion it isn`t but having never used the service am prepared to stand corrected. I know that Porsche approved cars go through the 111 point check and then there is a bit of vague wording to the effect of the car`s geometry is checked and if necessary adjusted including a road test. But I`m not sure if a stand alone 111 point inspection includes a road test. It is only on the road that weak syncros would become evident.

If that's an official warranty they should be paying. The previous owner who paid the £750 would have expected it to pay out...it was transferred to you..it should pay out and fix the problem.

As said before be firm, polite and insistent. At the very least they should be offering significant goodwill in this case. A gearbox should last the life of the car. There is *no excuse* for it not doing so. It would take serious abuse - not hard use - to wear the thing out in just 19,000 miles.

My car has covered 21,000 miles. Admittedly it has half the bhp. Should I expect the gearbox to wear out before 38,000 miles and that's normal? Don't think so.

The 111 point check is by some RAC dude. It doesn't fill me with confidence.

Why? Surely a trained mechanic is a trained mechanic. I've always been impressed with the RAC people I've had dealings with.

The car is road tested, or, at least that's what I've been told. I've just bought a '99 car privately that has a worn near side trailing arm pick up that causes a creaking/knocking sound that they failed to notice on the test drive. And now they have washed hands of all responsibility saying it must have worn out between them inspecting it and my (finally) getting it in to be inspected at another OPC early this week. Again, not impressed.

Not a great start to Porsche ownership but at least it's not the gearbox - good luck getting it sorted Andy.

That quite frankly is shocking behaviour from Porsche and their image for Quality, engineering excellence and reliability is quite frankly going rapidly out of the window!

just ask poor pikey about the mares with his new Gayman S!!

With regard to gearboxes on all 911s then they prefer to put a new box in as Porsche is not now really geared up to part replacements and re build. at the end of the day it is all about passing on the costs and the manufacturer will have a pot of cash put away to manage this as part of the so called quality and parts process.

hard to believe I know but my C2 had notchy gear synchros last year and they just whipped the whole box out and put a new one in! this was with a previous owner I might add who took the opp to put a new clutch in. no questions on warranty and it was just done.

bearing in mind the sort of car you have, how much they were new,, the number of special parts that are on it then you would have thought they would have wanted to have kept it quiet and just sort it!

The GT2 is all about top end performance, engineering and quality so cleary OPC sound like they are fed up with all the warranty claims that are now coming in n trying to get out of it!! what is porsche playing at these days???
If I were you get a meeting with the DP or MD and demand they are paying for it! like how they can turn around on this like this as it is quite shocking! one minute they are paying the next they are not!

next thing is they will be telling you not to drive the car on boost or with vigour.

what a joke!

I've never been convinced that a trained mechanic is a trained mechanic Not to mention who knows what real experience they have with a given model. Even OPC techs struggle with more exotic models at times.

I had a 'trained' mechanic who also does 111 point OPC checks look at my Csl when i was selling it...car had done 1200 miles and he recommended to the potential buyer that the tyres were worn out...Michelin cup sports with 1200 miles on the clock...

That’s great the 111 check is done by the RAC; Porsche assist is run by the RAC, what next? Perhaps they will start selling us the cars, mind you can't be much worse than the OPC.

The cars are road tested and the 111 point check is not outsourced to the RAC.

There is a check box on the form which states the car is road tested. Does the original poster have the checklist and is the box ticked?

This is someone at Porche trying it on. Go and speak to the dealer principal. Polite but firm.

Problem I have is what happens when the road tester misses a fault? If they tootled round the block with the radio on then they wouldn't have picked up on my issue but a 15 to 20 min drive would be plenty to spot it and track it down.

Sure but if they have checked the box on the form which states they have orad tested the car then they can't argue, shurely?

They're pulling the old 'must have happened since we tested it' routine despite it being a worn out, rather than broken part. And since I don't live close to them (was the sellers local OPC, not mine) I didn't take the car back to them at the earliest possible opportunity.

Has it been confirmed to them that the car has been tracked? Have they seen pic's of the car on the net somewhere perhaps?
