996tt misfire

My 996tt has an occasional misfire when accelarating hard,any gurus out there know if there is a common remedy for this or is it the usual plugs/coil checks etc?

MAF sensor might need a clean

Some of the "nicer" OPC's (if you know one well?) will hook it up to their bag of tricks FOC to see if there is an error reading. Many of the good independants have the kit too so as a first strike I would see if there are any error codes being kicked out, as it could be a number of things.

Thanks for your help chaps,my local Opc will stick it on their machine next wednesday free of charge but i was trying to resolve it before then..looks like i will have to be patient.

As silverTT says, try cleaning the MAF, its a very easy job & only takes a few mins.
If it doesn't help then you have eliminated that.
I did mine recently after the car was feeling lumpy at low speeds & it fixed it.

Believe me, I am the same (topping the oil up is about my limit) but its very easy.
I was going to say do a search on this forum for full instructions but the search has changed & its not very user friendly (or is it just me?)

Ummm so how do you clean it? where is it - the pointy end or the blunt end? Do I need a screwdriver (gulp)

Do i need a screwdriver?I do most of my fine tuning with mole grips

you need a torx thingy with the security hole in it and some residue free electrical cleaner.

it's an easy job.

You need 2 things, a torx bit (raised in crntre) & some electronic contact cleaner.

Thanks for your advice and help chaps....did the MAF thingy last night and the car is running perfect...i got told subsequently that when the car was serviced last month and they changed the air filter they sometimes clean the airbox out with an airline pushing crap onto the maf.Not sure if thats true but the car runs smoother than it has in ages....And it was simple once i managed to buy the right tool.!

All done and back in. It has certainly helped the low rev and pulling away a lot smoother now.

The tools only cost 11 gbp. So a good result.
