New virus, sends email to all of your address book inviting them to check out your new website. Then it tries to install some software to view it, and then they've got ya !!!

Watch out !!

Anybody seen/resolved it yet ?

Cheers.

My next door neighbour had his hotmail account hacked (we think) and the following email sent to all his contacts:

Hi! How are you?
I started my own website! Can you check it?
It's [URL WAS HERE] . Did you see video?
Thank's!

One of his mates clicked on the link and was taken to a video site that asked to download a new media player codec. When he did this he was infected with something called SpySheriff.

The easiest way to fix it was to boot into safe mode and run System Restore (good if you're running XP) to put the PC back to how it was before the infection.

That is exactly it !!

I was at work so I do not know how it got there, it could be any one of 3 PC's all hooked up to the same router

2 XP and one 2000.

Brought them into work today and dropped them on 2nd line to fix

SpySheriff is an oldie - June / July last year IIRC.

Nowt major out at the moment, everything classified as "low" so you should be fine, IF your AV is up to date.

Not sure if something was different about this one but he had a very difficult time getting AV to take care of the problem. He had Norton A/V installed and up-to-date but it didn't find anything at all.

PrevX detected and stopped the virus from doing anything major but wasn't able to get rid of it from the system hence the System Restore thing.
