F430 being a PITA?

My wife's boss bought a new F430 a few weeks back - since he's had it, it seems to have covered more miles on the back of a tow truck than it has under it's own steam. He's even been on local traffic news for causing a serious holdup 
Is this normal for a rarri?! I've never been a huge fan of them, but from chatting to another owner it seems almost like accepted behaviour!

it was more a question on his behalf - he's getting a wee bit hacked off with it (understandably so) and considering giving up on it. Though as I say I'm not a huge fan doesn't mean I dont appreciate the marque or not interested in them - just would prefer one of the other top marques for my own custom.

Bearing in mind all the future RAC/AA/Dealer collection costs, I'll give him a tenner for it if its in red. Any other colour and I'll only go to a fiver max.

Only problem i have had with my 360 in 5 years is flat battery due to it being not used for long periods of time. My dad bought a DB9 Volante recently and it has been one problem after the next, the electrics are shocking and keep failing.
Phoned up Aston and told them to come and get the 'damm thing off my drive and get rid of it'
Things like this can happen to any top end car it seems, some get unlucky. Porsche are usually very good, TVR are usually very bad, Ferrari would be somewhere in the middle is seems.

I don't think its ever acceptable when your paying that kind of money for a car, but you also have to realise that a 430 is a much more highly tuned car then a Porsche C4, im guessing thats why he went for the 430 instead of the upcoming Porker Turbo
Dealer has told him the problem is with the clutch - I got this second hand after coming through 2 non-mechanically minded people so it was a bit hazy as to the exact problem, but it sounds like with the pedal fully depressed the clutch is not dissengaging properly, causing it to overheat and some sensor is killing the engine?! The dealer also said its a known defect with the 430 and most of them had been rectified in a re-call, so might be useful if your 430 keeps stopping in traffic!

You are starting to sound just a little bit too pleased about the poor fella's car going wrong.
He might be an ar*ehole in the office but most 'matey' bosses tend to get bugger all done.
The clutch re call has also happened on alot of US F430's I'm told it's a pretty quick fix for the dealers but still not ideal on a £135k car.
I saw one yesterday and decided I forgive it anything though!

well if I'm honest, yes I am pleased, no, overjoyed, no, ecstatic! - he is an arsehole that does worse than get nothing done, but that's another story, if you knew the background on him and his work ethics you'd probably be asking why I haven't dropped a tram on his car from a very great height, preferably with him in it.
For some reason though being helpful with bits of info on things like this seem to make the wife's life *almost* bearable there, at least she cry's less when she gets home, so while I secretly roll around with laughter at his misfortune, I try and do what I can to help her while praying he gets a serious STD

!!Ferrari do seem to have a bit of a reputation for building fragile cars but I suspect it's got more to do with non-mechanically minded owners than the cars being fundamentally weak.
Maranello obviously feel it necessary to recall the F430, not just for the clutch but there is a suspension component problem as well I believe.
The early Gallardo's had weak clutches, so this isn't a problem restricted to the Dancing Donkey. Sneakily, Lamborghini just kept "shtum" and waited for the owners to bring the cars in, thus avoiding an actual 'recall' situation. A tactic favoured by Aston Martin in the past.
As the 430 is likely to be built in much bigger numbers than a Lambo, I think Ferrari are rightly just being very cautious.
How's that for a neutral comment from a committed Lambo owner!
