Early 993 Steering Brace for 18" Wheels
Discussion
I am putting 18" Carrera 2002 light alloys on my 993 along with sticky tyres for summer. I have been advised that 18" wheels on an early 993 require the steering rack brace to be fitted (though the wheels I'm putting on are actually lighter than the 17" type they're replacing, I'd rather be safe than sorry).
I have acquired the brace (993 347 130 02) from my local OPC, however they supplied no bolts to attach it with. I assume either specific fixings are required for the brace, or longer bolts in the existing location to handle the centimetre-extra depth of the brace bar? My OPC parts guy apparently can't find this out for me.
Can anyone here who's actually fitted this part help me? Do you need special bolts, or does the brace bolt onto existing steering rack fittings *using the same size bolts*?? If so, presumably I'll just get a new set of standard rack bolts. I'm not re-using bolts after someone did this to my old Golf GTI when fitting a reconditioned rack, a bolt sheared at 30 mph round a corner and one of the wheels went perpendicular to the direction of travel....
Ideally, does anyone know the Porsche Part number for the bolts I require? Then I can just get the guy to send me the specific bolts and everything is good.
