I have a number of music DVDs and a windows media PC. I want to copy just the tracks I like off each DVD onto my hard drive. I thought this would be simple enough but so far every peice of software I have tried has proven to be shite! They either copy the entire disk, as is or convert the tracks to a compressed format (dvix etc) which obviosly reduces the quality. The best one of a bad bunch seems to be X-Software's Video Vault, however it is unreliable and half the time stops for no reason.

Can anyone recommend some DVD software?

does windoze media player 10 not let you rip DVDs? It certainly does for DVD data and CDs etc.

(not at my home PC ATM so I can't check)

Have you tried DVD Shrink? I use it at home (so can't check now) but I think it allows you to copy a dvd image to the hard drive.

It does, you can also recompress to get it to fit on a standard DVR [+|-] R, remove items you don't want, or even completely re-author the disc. Great piece of kit.

The thing is I don't want a copy of the whole image - I just want selected chapters from each disc.....

DVD Decrypter allows you to rip individual chapters from a DVD, you end up with .vob files.

When I had a look at DVD decrypter it created about 8 .vob files for a disk that has over 30 songs on - I want just some of the songs....

Nero 7.

Use Nero Vision to cut out the tracks you need and save as Avi or Mpeg etc.

I want the videos as individual files - as I said Video Vault does a partial job - unfortunately it has "issues" with about 50% of DVDs..

Try Redfox - this will turn off any protection; then with Redfox running you can use something like DVD Decrypter; DVD Shrink or DVDSanta to do the actual editing.

Edited to say: Actually Redfox is the icon - the software is AnyDVD.

Great if you want to copy a DVD but get rid of adverts etc at the start.
