Horns,dilema,cold-feet.
If you were me, Would you...take next week off work while you can and weathers improving to pull out your perfectly good and well behaved engine that has done 116k miles, and replace it with the new one. OR...
work on the established principal, if it aint broke...
and leave replacement until it is? ( When I won't have the time or money no doubt!)
Probably cold feet, but now not sure which way to jump.
What would you guys do ???

What's the condition of the current engine, is it burning oil, how are the compressions?
If everything's okay with the current engine, why not wait, thrash the guts out of it as suggested earlier and in the meantime rebuild the new engine with a load of power goodies.
Another scary thought, if anything goes wrong with the engine swap you might be without a car for some good weather and even (heaven forbid) miss SCH

Present block burns no oil at all and compressions are all tested as high and even. Its as clean as a whistle and never lets me down each and every day.Even the TP is good!
I know,I know,.......But I have a NEW ONE don't I.
Painted, sparkling and silently waiting for its first ever start and burble, sitting in a corner of the garage!
You can see the predicament!!!
Don't have dosh for upgrades but would like to feel confident if I took it for tune up rolling road at Austec after 2000 mile run in that it would not spit big ends.
Just dunno which way to jump.

If you havnt upgraded the new engine with cams etc then why change ? There V6's are good for loads of miles. Mine has 134k on it & had the austec chip last year, on occassion it was revved beyond the red line on the rollers for 3 days so i asked Paul how much these units could take.
His reply "they are bulletproof" and "if there clean and not burning oil then there great" i beleive the cams are the only bit that really wears down.
Mine shows no sign of any illness & i use it regularly - did 750 miles over the last 2 weekends without missing a beat, and i dont drive it gently.
I'd keep it & save for a 218 cam & then get it installed in the car next winter with an Austec Unichip run. I have 174Hp & 224lb/ft from a standard 134k engine. Pulls like a train now with a much improved torque curve.
