Lots of these gits here at the moment. I was playing footie with Charlie yesterday and one of them flew straight down my throat . Should I have swallowed a spider to catch the fly do you think?

i have never liked flies (bees and wasps are fine) but seeing one in this detail make me dislike them even more.
what is it with those hairs on the legs? all the better for transferring material form their last meal!

Was it that one you swallowed?

UK ones? Blimey. Mind you, unlike Mr Carter, I don't make a habit of eating them

All things considered, I think probably not.

Funny, I was being bothered by flies while working the other day, started thinking about what the hell are they for? What use are they? Next thing my thoughts had progressed along the same lines to 'what use are humans?' I mean even the most worthy human endeavours are only self serving (the human race) or maybe undoing some of the harm we have done as a species...

Am I thinking too much? (Must have been a slow day)

Sorry for the hijack, the pic just reminded me (and I am on the bourbon) (well it is Saturday night here)

I thought it was rather well constructed. I suspect that we humans are here for the benefit of flies and some of the other insects.

I am totally convinced that ants rule the world - or will do again at some future point. Perhaps in coalition with the cockroaches.

The purpose of humanity is merely to release the inadvertently sequestered carbon deposits in the hope that the continually cooling sun's effect will be enhanced for a few more millions of years so that the societies of ants can continue to thrive unhindered by ice ages and in their unchanging social form.
