email spoofing
Discussion
Just wondering whether there is anything I can do about this...
My work PC acts as a 'catch all' and, in addition to collecting emails addressed to me, will collect any others sent to us with unrecognised email addresses. For instance, assume mary@our_domain.co.uk and mungo@our_domain.co.uk have been set up as specific email addresses. But if someone were to send an email to midge@our_domain.co.uk which does not exist, it is collected by my PC. Not a problem to date and it was quite useful to have the catch all facility - until now....
I have started getting automated emails from Postmasters and the like rejecting an email allegedly originating from our domain. However, the source addresses are just random numbers and letters tacked onto @our_domain.co.uk.
Evidently, the @our_domain.co.uk has been spoofed. Other than stopping my PC being the catch all and just black-holing any non-specific emails, is there anything else which can be done. Picking up three or four of these things every 5 minutes is a PITA..
TIA..

Domain spoofing is common and rife - spammers and viruses will fake any number of domain names when sending mail out.
Nothing you can do about it, just bear in mind that the chances are that all these "postmaster" emails are automated, and it's not a person that's complaining, rather a system generates the email.
