Just seen the news, one of the scumbags involved in the stabbing of that policeman last night was a failed asylum seeker! How the FCUK can a "Failed Asylum Seeker" go missing. A quick trip to Heathrow and a ticket on the first plane out, surely?
This is getting close to being the last straw. A report on Radio5 today was telling the story of the homeless in the Leeds area. Now I'm no tree hugging bleeding liberal, but when you hear that terrorists making Ricin are living in local authority flats because they are so called refugees and there are young British homeless out there then something has to be wrong.
This country is going to become the Afghanistan of Europe if something is not done soon. A safe haven and breeding ground for extremists and terrorists.
Shut the borders now, enough is enough. Deal with the ones that are already here. If asylum is refused then ship them out there & then, no ifs nor buts, out!
Anyone found out to be an illegal immigrant and does not declare themselves to the authorities within a sensible time scale. De-port them. They should not be allowed to the seek asylum, they've screwed their chance.
Another thing, where the hell is the opposition parties in this country whilst all this is going on. Afraid to be branded as racist bigots I reckon. Surely there must be at least one well educated member of parliament not within the government who can put across a strong, reasoned, common sense argument to enlighten the powers that be and the bloody PC BBC what is blatantly bleeding obvious to the rest of us.

Mind you, can you imagine the response from all the liberals if Portillo, Tebitt, Boris Johnston or some such was to make a very high profile speech to this effect? There’d be several killed in the rush to condemn it.

I think that it is time for the sensationalist bugger the facts approach. It doesn't appear to matter that even the UN says that Britain is being unduely burdoned with so called asylum seekers, it doesn't appear to matter that those that bother to apply and fail are invited to stay anyway - and I'm sure that it won't matter that they set up terrorist cells and kill police (except that this may make things difficult when Tony sets up his next date with the big dubbulya

As you have said though Paul, it is not politically correct to oppose asylum seekers, but nobody really bothers that there are homeless people on the streets, terminally ill patients with uncurable diseases, povity etc here).
To all the electorate - please can we have a government that doesn't rate utlimate success as a positive Sun headline in the morning. You can welcome all you want when you have sorted out our problems, disuaded the youth outside from casing my house, provided a proper transport network, cut hospital waiting lists, etc. I was going to ask for all of the above, but have just realised that they were all election promices, so have no hope of happening.

Freeze all immigration until we can sort this mess out. Cut the red tape, no appeals, send them back that day. assess their claim while they are in France.
Any who enter as ii's record/fingerprint and deport never to even consider their asylum claim again.
Its beyond a joke now. I feel so sorry for this family of this Policeman. Quite upset last night over it all.
Friend of mine works for the DSS in Birmingham and has a couple of assylum seekers on his books. I think, but could be wrong here, that they are in the process of working through the papers on the basis that they would be persecuted/killed if they went back home. Presumably the DSS wouldn't touch them if that weren't so..

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHEN FOUND SHOULD BE ESCORTED ON FIRST PLANE OUT OF HERE!Surely it would be better to sort out the problems in their home country's, then they could go home and live where they really belong or not even bother to leave in the first place. They should be where their roots are. I know some of these people have really suffered and deserve our help but we should help sort things out at home and send them back later when it's safe for them to go back. It may be cheaper for us in the long run. I'd hate to have to live in another country (oh, unless it had a better standard of living of course).
It is worth bearing in mind while we're on this topic that at the moment we don't extend refugee status to quite a few children who get gang raped in prison by the guards, and return them to their country of origin and thereby back to the prison to be raped some more. The basis for this decision is that the rapes were not part of a politically motivated campaign, its just what the guards do on their own initiative. Makes you proud to be British, doesn't it?
We don't need to slam the door in everyone's face. We need a system that assesses these people quickly and fairly and gives the genuine asylum seekers the support they need. Unfortunately we have complete and utter chaos instead.

Funny you should say that since I've got rellies over there and the option is appearing more frequently on my 'time to sort my life out' list.
I read an interesting report stating that Oz (certainly Sydney and other large cities) is rapidly becoming a bit of a homm joint, hence the Oz gov are keen to attract affluent(sp) young professionals (with family / or plans). Will do nicely.
I agree entirely about the refugee situation, especially in light of Sangatt (sp) v2.0, UK terrorism and the country generally turning into a overty PC nanny state. I'm just waiting for one of the tabloid bogrags to delve into the refugee situ. and highlight how ridiculously easy it is to get into the UK.

Having said that I agree with the principle of your point. We don't have a strong opposition. It has been successively disenfranchised by a bunch of lilly-livered whimps gorging themselves in the trough of public service with the expectation of getting their leg over either Edwina Currie or John Major according to their sexual proclivities, and then selling their story to the highest bidder.
As far as I can see Blair has set his sights on a path to political immortality through his Thatcheresque despatch of our troops to the other side of the world. I think he has totally abandoned his responsibilities and electoral pledges in this country. He misguidely believes that success alongside the US war process will secure his place in history and create the warm glow of national celebration as once again the British flag flies in distant parts. Re-election would be secured. In summary bloodying the nose of SH is an easier task than sorting out the worsening societal problems in this country including those affecting healthcare, pensions, manufacturing base erosion, law and order.
This country is in danger of step-down resonance, when a number of individual negative trends, each without ruinous significance in its own right, coalesce leading to a major discontinuity. Law and order / immigration / re-emergence of union power driving unaffordable wage demands / lack of effective opposition / neutered media etc are ganging up. Recession, civil unrest and the emergence of extreme political factions are just around the corner. WAKE UP!

The thing is, for such a crime (terror in any of this kind) those people would be hung from the highest tree around in their own country (example: drinking alcohol... oh dear), no questions. So what do they expect in Europe ? Maximum 15 years ? I say, try the Ricin on those who tried to spread it. Cut the hands off the one who killed the police officer (RIP poor guy). That might be a bit right wing but where are we going to ? It sounds a bit weird but I'm sick to hear these stories.
If I was the wife of the Policeman who was killed I would find it very hard not to be very publicly blaming Bliar and his Government for the death of my husband. Why are these people still in the country.

ATG - I hope my original post did not come accross as an attempt to get all non-white, non-anglo saxon, non-blue haired and blue eyed people living in this country thrown out. Of course there will be many within the influx of refugees that are deserving of shelter and a safe haven. What I felt needed venting was the total and utter chaos the current situation has/is causing, and will continue to cause.
SHUT THE BORDERS NOW AND SORT THE FCUKING MESS OUT. THEN, IF REQUIRED, BRING IN THE WORTHY IN A CONTROLLED MANOR.

Hutch - Far more eloquent than I could ever be! Why is it I can read such common sensical offerings daily on hear, yet hear nothing but drivel from our politicians? Even more worrying, our press? What is going to be the next big docu-soap or fly-on-the-wall-watch-and-squirm-big-brother-style-new-pop-star type program is far more important!
