I recently acquired Rugby 2006. When i play it, however, the game plays at double speed (or faster). Commentary is normal speed, so i'm assuming there's some kind of problem involving my graphics card, which is a mobility radeon 9700. Any ideas?

How very odd.
You could try updating the graphics card drivers and checking with the publishers website to see if any patches have been repleased, google and/or publisher forums might also give you a clue as to what is happening.

Cheers for that. It is indeed very odd (good for the reactions though). Will try some driver updates and see how that goes.

I had something like this in unreal tournament a few years back - it was absolutely hilarious; the game was running about twice the speed it should have been - made turning round a nightmare as the frame rate meant that looking along a hallway at a lot of textures slowed it down enough to turn normally, then turning past a wall close to you would double the frame rate. That was with a 9700 pro, as well.
It turned out to be something odd with one of the power saving modes for the motherboard - I seem to remember it was something very silly about which one was enabled in the bios when you installed windows; could be worth disabling whatever power saving stuff you've got turned on and see what happens - might be due to AMD cool'n'quiet / intel whatever(speedstep?) CPU throttling. Just an abject guess, though.

I recon you're halfway there.

My best guess would be that the game deteced CPU speed at install time, and has decided you've only got a 600Mhz CPU, (which it probably was at install time) and has set itself up accordingly. If there are no options that you can find I'd uninstall the game. Turn all the powersaving stuff off, and reinstall with the CPU running at full speed.

Push the "turbo" button to slow the machine back from 12 to 8mhz

(Worked on a 286 lol)

That worked in reverse on a friends machine...he never could understand why Strike Commander ran so badly on his pc until a friend pushed the turbo button to see quite how slow it would be at 8 mhz - lo and behold it suddenly became playable! If I remember correctly that pc company went out of business a few weeks later...
