18 inch spiders on a Wedge
Discussion
Well,
Bet - I'm the first to fit 18 inch spiders on a wedge
Before the pictures the details :
T350 wheels 18" 8.5 J 225/35 ZR18 194cm circumference, weight 21kg
and 18" 8.5 J 235/40 ZR18 201cm circumference, weight 21kg
450SEAC wheel 15" 8.5J 225/50 WR15 192cm circumference, weight 17.5 kg
Here are some before and after shots for comparision :
The bad bits : the Wedge always overread on MPH (6mph high at 30, 5 mph high at higher speeds : on regular wheels) - so a larged diameter wheel could well make the speedo more accurate.
The Spiders offset is wrong - by probably 1 inch (or 1.5 inch) at the rear fouling the antitramp bar this could be modified, the front wheel is fine.
So - what do you think : do you prefer the original wheels or does the spiders bring the seac bang up to date

Does it look like you've got a big black hole behind the rears, with the discs being inboard ?
I've always thought the Wedges' wheels look too small, but not sure about such a low profile. Perhaps 17s are about the limit, though at least the overall outrageous factor of these cars does permit a little more bling, when compared to the more traditional looking Chims/Griffs.
I'll bet the ride will be somewhat firm.

Was about to get bigger tyres for 390 , discussed it with tvr parts bloke , his opinion was it was ok , then mentioned it at the Meriden meet to Badredwedge and castercamber , they said it could muck up the handling big time , so didn't go further. What effect will there be on handling/steering/tramlining etc ?
Hrm, it's a good effort, but my humble opinion is stick to the OZ's. For some reason, that shot of the spider on the front of the car makes it look like some sort of fancy space-saver wheel.
Definitely looks better with a smaller wheel and a good chunk of rubber on it. Again - All IMHO of course.

Sorry Rev but put the OZs back on. Had a set on the 350 for a while ( got some pics somewhere ) but they did not look right and the ride was shit. OZs on a big Wedge ARE the dogs.
Oh, and why is the SEAC outside and that other car thingy is in the garage ??
Been rumbled..
Just did it as an experiment
Just for fun.
It looks best with the 235/40 tyres - 225/35 just too low profile.
The offset makes it just look wrong IMHO - too inset.
Think the extra weight would not help the handling - no wonder why Peter Wheeler did not want wheels bigger than 16's..
They are not staying on the car - jut an experiment

, but I prefer the look of the OZ wheels. You would definitely need some big discs and shiny calipers behind those spiders
- what about the 16" spiders that came with the early Tamora.
Rev,change them back or the SEAC police WILL be round

It will go down well at the Ace Cafe.
