Having just acquired a new "cherished"(?) number for the Cerb, and having just had them made up at Halfords, I now realise that the backlit setup for the rear plate is a problem for standard type plates.

Where's the best place to get a more translucent (and therefore more legal) number plate, given that I live miles from civilisation in Inverness??

Any knowledge appeciated.

Cheers.

edited coz I is spelled trans..whatsit wrong

Had the same prob on my Chim, went in to Christopher Neils last week whilst working in the area.Because of the new laws they could not make the actual plate but they did supply the orange translucent back ground, I then went to Halfords where they, once you have proved you are the owner, added the numbers and plastic for the price of £6.99

Hi I mailed these guys this morning and this is their reply:

in answer to your first question yes we do the translucent rear
plate for a tvr the cost would be £10.50 plus post and vat ,in answer to the
second question we could make you a legal front plate but we would not cut it
down , if you wanted the pair the total cost would be £23.50 this is
including post and vat

We, and I'm sure all TVR dealers, keep the correct material in stock to make the rear plates. There is no problem with us supplying the material only and they cost approx £14 each. If we are to make a set of plates then new legislation from 01/01 means that proof of the plate, address etc, all have to be available, checked and logged before the plates can be made. We could mail out the material to you if required. Best regards, Tony Abrams.
