Anyone know anything about the L reg V8S in the classifieds for 20k. The advert says that the car only has 7,000 miles on the clock. Anyone know anything about this car as i assume it's in concourse (sp?) condition....shame no pictures are provided.
Just Curious..Ian
An S V8. £20k? Jesus. Touch pricy isn't it?
Yes I think the S1 was that, but inflation and higher specs (electric windows!) meant it rose. Found two old Autocars:-

April 90 S2 £16,645, S2c (sic) £18,995, also a Speed 8 and the 450SEAC was £37499!
Sept 91 S3 £18,084 S3c 19,923 and V8S £23,595
3.9 Griff listed at £22,247 and 450SE at £30,140.
Speed 8 still listed in both 3.9 and 4.3 versions.
Off course you'd need to add any extras, to these.
V8S for £20K?
Can't see me reaching for the cheque book for this one even if it has only done 7000 miles.
There is only so much the car is worth and £20K is way over the top IMO.
There are plenty of very clean V8S's out there for 50% of that price which are perfectly good cars. Infact you could restore an old nail V8S for less than that.
Good luck selling it though, maybe a collector will buy it.

personally I would be slightly worried bout buying a 10yr old car with 7k on the clock. certainly wouldnt pay a large premium for it. Doesnt inspire me that it has been used very regularly......
Having said that, if it has been run regularly and serviced etc regularly (which I dont doubt) then its a chance for someone to basically buy a new V8S that hasnt been available for a number of years.

Podie said: Jas,
You say that... but how much has the S cost so far...?
Podie,
You could probably restore on old V8S to A1 condition for about £15K including buying the car for about £6K-£7K. (18 months ago I was offered one in similar condition to my S2 at that time including being red with black interior which was at that time up for around £6.5K. The car had full tax & mot but needed an engine rebuild as it had very low oil pressure. I think that spending about £8k on that car would see it with a shiny rebuilt engine and a fresh coat of paint. The interior was immaculate as was the chassis. If I did it myself I think it would have cost about £4K. If you wanted it to be concours it would probably swallow up around £15K including the cost of buying the car if you were prepared to do some work yourself).

How's your S coming on BTW? Getting there?
Hi Podie,
I am just going by how much I predict my rebuild will cost, but I could be miles out. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has already completed a restoration as to how accurate my prediction is.
As regards my S2, the rebuild has slowed down a bit really. I need to get my finger out, but whenever I look at the car I just think, "how the fcuk am I going to get this lot back together again?" Anyway, the switches have gone off to LeeBee to be converted into shiny ones and I plan to pull the engine and 'box out at the end of this month now that the body is off.
