Attempting to take the roof off so that i can re-carpet the interior. Taking the dash off was a lot easier than i thought, and re-upholstering the doors has worked a lot better than i expected. Doors look fantastic with the new carpet from coverdales.

However, the roof is proving to be a real bitch of a job, got the bolts across the back off and the two bolts that allow the roof to pivot, but there are two self tappers in the sides in what I presume is tungsten carbide cum titanium material as they will not shift, tried taking them out with screwdrivers, powerdrill, pliers, mole grips, hammer and plenty of WD40 but they will not shift!! Titanium drill bits just make a dent in the top and screwdrivers wont turn them so how do you get them out? They must be the toughest screws ever as drill bits go blunt after about 1 mm into them? Any ideas anyone?

just done the same job with the same problem
only one of the self tapping screwwas rusted in on mine..
how can the metal be so soft as to round off with ease but then take two new drills to drill it out ?????.
I went out and bought a JML screw extractor and after 4 hours the head came away
(also cut into the head with a dremel )
with the head of the screw removed I could lift the base of the hood over the remaining screw,
then I used mole grips to remove what was left (the easy part)

Have you removed the lining at the back of the boot? this will make it easier to re-fit The bolts/nuts
