does anyone know if a chimaera alternator fits onto a griff 500, and where is the cheapest place to buy a alternator

Yep it does,

Before you buy an alternator check its not the electrics pack/voltage regulator as this is a £40 part from a motor electics shop. 90% of occasions it is and could save you big bucks.

Check also that it's not just the 100A fuse blown,which will behave as if the alternator has stopped working.

Just had to do mine....£2.95 fuse is a cheaper and easier fix than a new £200+ alternator and discovering you haven't fixed the problem.

Well I haven't bought one before and the only one I'd seen to replace my Magneti Marelli was priced "usually £211.17 plus VAT. Our price is £129.00" never had to put my hand in my pocket for one so not looked that hard.

Where did you get yours from, for future reference?

I think that Quinny's is the earlier pre-serp type?These are cheaper.The best price i've seen for a Magnetti Marelli 100A serp type was around the £100 mark,new, on e-bay from memory.

I bought a new alternator last week for my 4.3 chim and it was £42+VAT from sureparts, not that expensive really considering you get a 12 warrenty!
