2nd Hand Boxster
Discussion
I'm looking to get a 2nd hand Boxster and have seen the following 2.7 in Top Marques:
The seal grey Boxster has only had 1 owner from new and has a full A.F.N. service history
First service carried at 12,293 miles and recently serviced at 23,026
Extra's:
air conditioning
leather seats
centre console
17" Sport alloys with crested centres
aluminium centre tunnel
sport wheel
computer
£29,995
What do you think to the spec and price?
Cheers.

Not sure about the price....
Things to check:
Does it have a Wind Deflector? (They look really strange without!) And for a really cheap option it affects resale value.
Is that Air-Con or Climate.....?
What's the mileage now? That 24K service is the big one so that's a good thing.
Is that "Full Leather" (2K option). "Leather Seats" or "Large Leather Pack" (really expensive.
I'd advise doing a bit more research...as well as asking here...

Yes it is a 2000 'X' and the price does seem quite steep! could do with a few more extra's! Was looking at spending 30K on a 2nd hand 2.7, with the following extra's, Seal Grey/Meridian, wind deflector, Air Con, full black leather, Porsche sound Package or Bose, 17" alloys and anything else being a bonus!!
Will keep looking, this wasn't from a OPC! would you recommend getting one from a OPC?
With the amount I looking to spend, is it likely that I'll get the above spec on a W or X plate under 25k miles on the clock!
Thanks again.

You will pay more through an OPC.Have a look at www.camtune.com they have have some very good cars at very competitive prices.

Cheers for the Camtune link, just had a look, they seem quite competitive.
Will keep looking, any more advice would be helpful!
I bought my last two Porsches from AFN. The latter one being brand new. The advantages would be the Official Porsche Warranty, I suppose - and the fact you can guarantee that the OPC will insist on every car having a FPSH - quite possibly from them. You may also get Porsche Assistance thrown in and so on...
I, personally, have nothing against the Independents both for purchasing and servicing - but I suppose I have added peace of mind regarding the history and provenance of the car.
Edited to say:
And they're terribly good at being nice to the wife whilst choosing options and looking over vehicles. Can be important if you need approval for the purchase.

Thats a good deal, will have a good look at the OPC search facility, haven't seen many in Seal or Meridian! is that a rare colour? Only ever see Silver!! nothing against silver but had too many silver cars before.
Don said: BTW: Have you considered getting an 'S'? There are some of the older ones knocking around at that money..(ok, slightly more)...and the extra grunt and brakes is worth more than any number of cosmetic options.
Climate is standard too...
Looked into the option of getting a slightly older 'S' which of course comes better equiped! Only drawback is insurance cost, currently got a TT coupe 225 and that's costing a fair bit to insure! So I thought I'd stick to something similar with regards to insurance costs. Some of the quotes for the 'S' were frightening to say the least.

Think I would go down the OPC route, would like a full official warranty from Porsche (1 year??) and it will have been fully checked which gives me added piece of mind!

And they were cheaper for the 2.7? Try Direct Line - they were by far the cheapest for me - although they don't cover Track Days.
On that Subject...if you intend to Track the car at any time make sure you get that included in your regular insurance as special insurance policies for the day are prohibitively expensive.
I'm currently with Privilege insurance, the quote for 2.7 was slightly more that the TT but 'S' was a no go!
So it looks like I'll start on a 2.7, wouldn't mind a MY03, just configured one on the website with the following options, porsche sound package, wind deflector, meridian, heated seats, air con and 17" boxster s 2 wheels. Total price was £34,841.
Maybe stretching a bit to far for me, gonna keep search for a decent 2nd hand 2.7 from OPC.
Thanks again for all your help, must admit it's a very friendly forum. Will keep you all informed on how I get on.

You're welcome. And please do.
BTW: The '03 model year has the advantage of a glass rear window. This totally obviates the need for a hardtop in my view...and is an absolute godsend in winter/rainy weather.
I don't even need to remove the windstop glass section for air flow on rainy days anymore - just start the heated glass rear window up and....it clears in a hot second. Excellent.

I bought mine in Meridian last month, was of the same mind as you that silver was nice but too common. Must say I'm bery happy with my choice, think it looks stunning, especially with the new MY03 smoked glass lenses.

Did you buy 2nd hand or brand new? if you bought it 2nd hand did you fit the MY03 smoked glass lenses yourself? are they available to buy? I feel the Boxster looks much better with the MY03 lenses!
Design911 do Clear lenses for indicators etc - which can be retrofitted to older Boxsters.
I have not heard yet of anyone retrofitting the glass rear window...although speculation on whether or not its possible has been running riot in the Porsche forums and a little in the Porsche Club GB magazine Porsche Post.
Can I recommend joining the PCGB? £60 for a year. You'll get a magazine that is very informative with lots of private ads for cars and access to the Boxster Register and the experiences of a great many owners.
A cheaper alternative, of course, is to go buy a copy of "911 and Porsche World" which has many of the same ads...

I bought brand new, actually with the extra's you've mentioned, plus a couple more. I definitely agree that the new lenses look superb.
