Hi, The search is over 
and the arrival is imminent of a nice 4.5 chim. quick straw poll please on the following.
a)do I insure it as a second car or use my NCB and who is the best for insurance,
b)where can I get a half decent car cover
c) feedback good or otherwise for servicing (Fernhursts, Gatwick and Dream machines are all relatively close)

are good, but have no experiance of the others Congrats on the Chim!
Insurance - there are a few threads around on this, if your car is standard I found Swiftcover to be good but went with Elephant in the end as they came out cheapest for the exhaust mods & aftermarket alloys.
I got a lightweight breathable cover from classicadditions.co.uk - you can put it on when car is wet or still warm after a run.
I use Austec in Crawley for servicing & maintenance - great service & prices are good. Can't comment on the other places though.

I would try to get classic insurance, one driver, 2nd car and limited miles, much cheaper that way, but I don't think you build up NCB with classic insurance, though if you have NCB with your 2nd car, leave it as it is!
I have been with Ian Fray insurance 01455 619022 since 1989 and always found them cheaper than most. But I guess with most things, it always pays to shop about.

I've been using a covercraft weathershield cover for the past 4 years though I think it's now past it's sell by date and the material has become rather porous. I spoke to the manufacturer and apparently you can re-cook them it a tumble drier to recondition the fabric (after a v gentle wash and very good rinse). I tried that but I'm not convinced it's any better, so I'm in the market for a replacement.
I found Direct Line gave me the best quote for my 450.
I've always used Racing Green in Surrey for service so can't comment on your candidates.

a) Is it a second car? DIrect line do a good deal on second cars (providing you insure both with them of course).
b) Get a fully decent car cover.
c) If Fernies are in reach use them.
All IMHO of course.
Direct line have just done me a great deal on a '99 Chim400. I have no NCB as I've been a company car driver. However, they have given me 5 years plus 10% cos my wife is insured through them (Citroen AX!).
10k miles pa, inc Business Cat 1, hire car cover, full legal, £400. Cheaper than my Laguna.
Tried A Plan and Hagarty which were about £100 more, with only 5k mileage, and no business cover.

THE best independent in the business. 'Nuff said. If it's a dealer you want, Racing Green - Fernies are good but not a franchised dealer.
Insurance-wise, My best quotes were from Direct line who will now insure both cars under one policy - well, you can't drive them both, can you?

Another vote here for Austec and Direct Line.
Direct Line will give you 10% off the first year's premium on any additional policies, then 5% off each year after that, when you insure more than one car with them. The discount is open to members of the same household and named drivers on Direct Line policies.

I have been driving TVRs for 7 or 8 yrs. Live on W sussex borders south of Guildford. I recommend only 1 garage (and have used many TVR garages). APM ! www.apmautomotive.co.uk. You wont get better value or more TVR experience elsewhere.
