Hello all, am possibly thinking of buying a Cerbera in the next few weeks, now what are the main faults with them?

Also, it will be a weekend toy only and be used for the occasional track day, are they any good for that?

Thanks

Lee

I would suggest you look into ownership a little more before buying one. Will help you from buying one that will end up costing you a fortune.

Research research research..........
Lots of old threads on here - search buying, buyers guide etc etc...
They are a great weekend toy plus tracks. Albeit they are expensive for track use and are f'ing fast. So if you are an experienced tracker then they are great.

As well as faults they need proper care and this costs. Do a search on '£3K'.

If you have got a £22K budget then try James Agger for a good 99 4.5.... Lower budget then be v careful.... Look for a well known private car.

As stated above, all you need to know can be found here.

In terms of buying a 'good one',If you buy from someone like James Agger Autosport
it takes the worries away.

He'll only sell cars he knows the history on and that have been inspected before sale.
Many also come with a year of warranty as well.

I'd certainly recommend you speak to James as he is the leading independent Cerbera sales
person and depending on your budget, my old Cerbera is currently on his books and is known
to many here as a very fine example.

Best of luck!

I used Rob for sourcing my 4.5 Cerbera. As I wanted a reliable car for daily use it was important to me that I get the right one. I've had it over 4 years as a daily driver and it's been good to me so I guess that reflects partly on Rob's expertise as well as regular/proper maintenance.

Unfortunately, the kids have finally outgrown the rear seats so I will probably be putting it on the market in the next few weeks ....

You could use the gbbird approach to buying a cerb. Decide on a rough colour and interior, find one that fits the bill, go and see it (and only that one), drive it, fall in love with it, then buy it and enjoy years of high speed motoring

Seriously though - you could spend forever and a day researching and looking at umpteen motors - there is always a risk when buying something like this. Indeed read up yourself on the Cerb and a few of it's foibles; accept that there will be a few lows during ownership; find one you love, be sure in yourself that you can afford the upkeep, and go for it.

Personally, if i was buying a cerbera again now and knowing what i have learnt from these hallowed pages, the main thing i would look for most (and without knowing it i did it the first time around) was to choose a 'relatively' untampered car as close to how it originally came out of the factory (allowing for neccessary upgrades like nitrons, better clutch, engine rebuild already done, headlights etc). I think you can just tell if a car has been cared for or not.

Before I bought my current Cerb, I spent weeks looking at ad's, doing research and going to look at lots of different cars. My advice is : -
1. Don't be too fixed on the Colour you want. Just go out and try and find a good one, it's better to have a good one in the 'wrong' colour, than a bad'un in your favourite colour.
2. Make the current Owner a BIG factor in your decision to buy. Don't just look at the Car, 'Interview' the owner and use your judgment to decide if he seems the 'type' to have looked after it - you can usually tell.

I didnt get the colour that I really really wanted, but I bought a good one - from a 70 yr old guy who had bought it new as as a retirement present to himself, and he had looked after it.

Good luck
