SERIOUS problem, Help! - I may have lost 2 days PC work !

i was just working on a very important business file in wordpad, which only had standard text in it, then my pc partly freezed when i went to save it, as like every 20mins, so then had to reboot after waiting 5 mins, so something saved i reckon - but now i cant load the same doc without wordpad looping to 4% then back to 0% as it tries load it, but appears to loopback at 4%.

its just a file with a 'doc' extension tho saved in rtf format.
its also listed in windows as being 995mb big when my 2nd backup is only 150kb which i can access!

my pc has no virus on it, an scandisk showed c-drive to be fine.

but if i lose this file ive lost 48 hrs of work

please advise !

ps- if there is something attached within it, then how might i filter it out?

Try opening it in something other than Wordpad - e.g. notepad or TextPad. You might be able to see the bulk of the data amongst any formatting stuff.

995MB! That's pretty big for a word document - unless it's containing lots of pictures.

Anyway, I'm sure word saves backups of the files somewhere in the hidden depths of windows. So, go to control panel, folder options, and under "View" make sure that "Show hidden files and folers" is ticked.

Then go into search for all files and folders, select all local hard drives, then go to the search box and enter the name of your file, with an asterisk at each end - like this:

*document1*

That should show up any and all copies (including hidden backups) anywhere on your computer - you may have inadvertantly saved a proper copy somewhere else by mistake, which you'd then find.

How big is it if you zip it? i.e. if it zips down to a couple of meg you could e-mail it to me and I could have a look
