What colour is my car???? HELP PLEASE!!!

Hi All,

Sounds like an odd question, but ive been having a few problems trying to get some touch up paint for the wedge!

TVR have given me the paint code, and its supposed to be called 'VW ocean blue' although VW deny all knowledge!!!

Anyone have any ideas???

The only other i know of in the same colous as mine is combine-any ideas???

Don't trust VW to know the answer, it will be an old colour and most of the staff probably won't have been around to remember it.. you'd be surprised how many times I've spoken to main dealers who are totally clueless relating to anything to do with their old models. Go to a professional bodyshop and ask them to check their colour reference book.. you may find it turns up.

The colour will have faded, so new paint of the same spec will probably not match. Go to a local auto paint supplier and they will match it for you. Whatever colour you may say it is!

Halfrauds with paint mixing services usually have 5 books of colour chips. You might find the Audi colour in there, then pick the 5 nearest to that as well, take them out to the car and match them up.

You might want to repeat the exercise under street lights to be totally sure.

I usually get them to make up a spray can - you can use it for touch-up by spraying some into the cap and using a brush when it gets a bit gloopy. Then you always have the option of using it as a spray as well. Even when you match the chip perfectly, there are still tolerances in the mixing, so you might find it's a little darker or lighter.

I had a very good result from halfords a while back as Adam says. They went the extra mile for me by having two attempts at it when the first was slightly off colour.

I didnt think i could trust VW, although the guy said that it was odd a code wasnt recognised....

Ive been to a paint shop who said that evenif he matched it he couldnt get it as they only use high temp bake on paint so no good for mr DIY bodger at home!

I want to get as close as possible, i know a colour matcher in this direction so guess ill take it to him....odd noone knows though! TVR said ocean blue!

The car has been sprayed in the past, and on the rear wing where the side skirts and the rear arch join, on one side there is no clear chip resistor stuff...stone must have chipped and lifted the paint and nubbin here blasted some paint off with the jet hose!

Thats interesting, my Arctic white 400 has the code of TVR Black!

ive tried paints4u.com but cant get anything close to ocean blue...or the paint code! Really strange...

I think TVR made the codes for the cars as they went along! My Log book says my 400se is a 3.5 4 speed when it is a 4.0 5 speed! And its all correct and original before anyone asks!!
