Evening guys,

I put a posting up detailing my disappointment with my Road Angel Plus. See here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=265507&f=23&h=0

I went from Aberdeen to Dinnet (past Aboyne) and my road angel didn't warn me once on mobile sites. Where as my mates 90 Telex Lite beeped 8 times.

It has yet to notify me of a mobile unit in the Aberdeen city or shire. In 1500 miles only told me about one site by Aviemore.

I've also drive by a few hair dryers and no warning, thankfully I wasn't speeding.

So can any recommend a different device with ideally has laser\radar detection but more importantly the database is comprehensive for this area, the road angel is useless!! What do you use.

I got three points on the North Deeside Road just by Drumoak last year - Road Angel didn't go off but I thought that was my fault because I had the safety cameras warning option turned off.

I now use a Navman 550 with monthly updates of the POI maps for all camera types. Seems to cover most mobile sites up here. No laser detection but that only really tells you when you have been nicked anyway.

I use Road Angel Navigator and Bel 550 - never any problems (touch wood)

Silly question, but did you have your road angel configured corrrectly?

Yes Duka, I've got all warning turned on, as I mentioned I got one alert up at Aviemore, but that's it...

I agree - Road angel is very poor on mobile sites. I know of two on the ABZ to Oldmeldrum road which RA is unaware of.

You (I) need to log them and they should be picked up by blackspot on your next update.

Alt. Send a strongly worded email with the lists of locations (abz, Moray, Trunk, ABZ shire) from NES Camera Partnership.

I will if you will.

best thing to do is make sure you dont have any tell tail stickers or your car and change the registration number with some black insulation tape & they will never know

Ezy,

Not sure that's such a good idea..........................

I'll email the Blackspot Interactive mob too, anyone else out there with a RA from Abz / shire? - Suggest you do too, and follow up if there is no action, then ask for your money back.

The RA is a Doorstop if the database is not up to date.

I'm seeing the Bobbies at 1.00 today about the photo they took and the 3 points they want to give me.

This was N of Newmacher, near Straloch Junction, I was at 85 while overtaking - see thread on the ...Plod.... forum "Caught speeding while overtaking - mitigation?"

I have a set of Qs about how they decide blackspots (or black stretches it seems), speed allowance for overtaking etc... Anthing else you want to ask and Ill post it here.

Got this resonse from Blackspot this morning:

"Dear Mr Watson.
Thanks for the email.
You will need to return the unit to place of purchase for a refund.
I will submit a direct debit cancellation form on your behalf.
Regards
Sales
Blackspot Interactive Ltd"

I called Halfords because their policy is 28 days refund. They told me to come in and they will call Blackspot with me in attendance and they should authorise the refund.

G

well, at least you got your money back.

Was your case/argument with blackspot simply the lack of mobile sites on the DB?

If so, I'll do the same and spend the money on another one.

Re my meeting with plod.(nice video BTW):

1/ It's not a blackspot but a black stretch, up to 5km long. They can setup anywhere on that stretch of road.

2/ There is a discretionary limit above 60 for overtaking, he was not prepared to say what it is, but "substantially" less than my 85.

3/ They take into account ALL accidents - minor / major to decide where a blackspot should be.

4/ 85 in 60 has to go to the Procurator Fiscal, so may be a court appearance, maybe more than 3 points.
