After a few emails have been sent, the contents of my Sent Box will disappear, then when I try to send it fails with a protocol error. Then I can only send after rebooting the machine, this clears the fault and restores the contents of my outbox but only for a short while.
Any ideas?

POP or IMAP shouldn't matter, if it's failing when sending then it's an SMTP error you'll be getting.

Aha the error message is:
SMTP, Port 0, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number: 0 x 800 C0131

Does that help?

That's corerct of course, but I was wondering about IMAP as part of the problem as the sent items dissapearing shouldn;t have anything to do with it if it's POP3.

Edit, as you found, probably a local file corruption.

Indeed, I hadn't really paid attention to that particular bit!
