Would Tim do a quantity discount if we ordered at the same time?? If you don't ask you don't get!!
If so, I might be in.
I am out the country at present, but when I get back I might just phone him and ask. Anyone else interested in new manifolds?
Also, is it worth asking any one else, other than ACT?

IIRC you can although the manifolds are manufactured by JP, you cannot buy them direct as they were designed by ACT.
Also I have them on my Pre Cat and they work a charm. Also much easier to replace gaskets with them on. And they look cool in SS, although my engine bay needs an attack with the auto sol.

Yep, just like those. Ordered today.
Typical I go away for couple of days and you actually make a decision on manifolds
Aren't those the 'non' precat ones with decat pipes??
Doesn't Tim do the 8 bolt flange jobies with the replacement Y piece to go with them? I just checked out the website but there is a distinct lack of pictures..
with or without ceramic coating??

Have you told her ??
It was "her" that made me get the performance ones ("her" being used to good performance you understand
He does indeed do the 8 bolt straight replacement, but I bought the performance ones instead.
BTW, he laughed when I ventured the bulk purchase idea - make of that what you will.
Now as far as I know, it might increase torque and it'll change the sound and I've been told by an owner that throttle response was a bit better.
At the end of the day, I've got me new manifolds and unlike you Mr Griffsmith, I didn't have to go out at 3am wearing a balaclavar, night goggles and carrying a grapple hook to get em.

Yes we do both original TVR layout with 8 bolt flange or our own design as pictured in this thread, same price .
We are sorting out the website to be more user friendly with more pictures
Cheers Tim

You've bought Louise a toy as well then
As well you know it, but you shouldn't call her 206 a toy, you might offend Reeso.
Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing of course, as long as it's contructive, but even that isn't essential.

Are the ones in the picture above ceramic coated? Other than looking nice, whats the advantage of ceramic coating? And any disadvantages ( cost ? )
My engine is pretty standard, and unless I win the lottery will remain that way.
How much difference to power & torque does the performance manifold design make to a standard car?
Also, does it make it a lot noisier. While a little extra noise can be a good thing, the car is used for long motor way trips etc, and I don't want it excessively loud.
Finaly, could anyone who may be ordering in the near future e mail through my profile.

When you receive them, can you let us know what they are like?
Indeed I can. This is how she sounds at the moment:

When they are done, I'll stick another one up - see if there's a difference.

The ones pictured above aren't ceramic coated, coated manifolds stay silver, cermachrome £295 for the set triple coated.
Engine bay temp reduced.
The new manifolds increase torque slightly , noise is "harder" more of a growl .

The ACT maifolds make decatting very easy (not a problem for me), espeically for MOTs.
Ceramic coating keeps the heat within the manifolds. Thus it keeps the under bonnet temperature down. Most people tend to prefer it to the exhaust wrap. The only down side I can see to coating is the price.
The mainfolds do increase the torque. I can't remember the figures, but my car was the one that they were originally tested on, and it's not slow, even though it's had it's compression ratio dropped to the low 8s. Mind you they're not the only mods on the car.
No it doesn't make the car excessively loud. The noise changes, but there isn't any real increase in volume compared to other Pre Cats I have heard.
Ceramic coating is set on manifolds, seems that one chap has had some bad experiences with the heat wrap: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=266463&f=9&h=0

Resurrecting this thread because I'm interested to hear from anyone else who's installed the ACT pre-cat 8 bolt flange manifolds.
Make yourself comfortable then, and read on ....
After installing a pair of these beautiful manifolds
I took the car for a run at the weekend and scared myself silly. I was sure the car was on fire somewhere because of the acrid smell, which I think was coming in through the passenger vent although I can't be certain of that.
I checked under the bonnet and couldn't find anything untoward and I felt every fuse, relay and wire in the footwell but couldn't find anything hot.
So, a couple of conclusions. Its either all the bits of chassis coating floating around in the engine bay and burning off that created the stink, or the manifolds cooking the inner wings. The manifolds are certainly wider than the originals and the passenger side is only a few mm from the wing.
After the first 20mins and two turn-around-to-go-home/set-off-again manouvres, the stink calmed down but I'm not sure if the smell was just in my nose or still coming into the car. It smells like burning plastic.
I was going to change the inner wing heatshields and bought some of the sticky backed stuff from Agriemach. But its quite thin so I cleaned up the old heatshields with white spirit and stuck the new stuff over the old.
I don't really want to cook the hell out of the inner wings so the car is in the garage for now. I think I need to vacuum every nook and crannie in the engine bay and take the car for another run, but what if the manifolds are cooking the inner wings?
I've called Tim at ACT but he's on holiday until next Tuesday, so can anybody offer any ideas or suggestions.
