964RS doors?

Are there any differences between a normal 964 door and a 964RS?

From memory ... RS has standard doors, except:
- thinner glass
- manual wind-up (no electrics) windows
- strap instead of normal door opening lever
- no door bins/pockets etc

3.6 RS has alu bonnet, normal steel door. As far as I know 3.8 RS has alu door and bonnet.

Joe, thats what I thought...standard door with thinner glass etc. When I gave my OPC the part number (964 531 005 00) they came back and quoted 964RS door!?

Made me wander if they were different somehow!?

Well - I guess it depends what the "part" is. Is it just the metal door frame/skin, or does it include the runners for the glass, the interior trim, etc. etc?

RS doors have no insulative pad stuck on the inside of the skin so when you shut the door you get that lovely tinny sound that most peolple want to avoid.

Not sure what it includes...I think its just the door itself. The window frame tec are all seperate parts!!

Also in response to VPR..could I just remove the padding to retain the true RS sound?

Yes I guess you could remove the padding(?) but it would be a bugger to get off. You'd have to heat it up with a gun. It's that bitumen stuff......then you'd get great sounding doors just like a 1981 fiesta.

Or better idea... get some carbon doors like Tony T has... they look the nuts, weigh much less than 964RS doors and are only 500 GBP each, ahem!!!

I'm not up on carbon parts pricing - but 500 quid each sounds too cheap to me. I assume they are Cup-car style doors with a fixed plasttic window?

Oops, yep, maybe they were1000 each not a 1000 a pair. Techart do them.

You can use a winder and glass in them, from memory. Don't have to use lexan and slider.

Stuttgart connections do carbon doors but they are about £2000 plus VAT!!!

I saw the yellow ex Techart 964 RS showcar recently, carbon doors, wings (and bonnet IIRC) bloody gorgeous.
The quality of the products and fitting/finish was superb. (Unlike some of the rubbish I've seen)

It would appear I've succesfully managed to mentaly block out how much they cost but it wasn't £500. I could dig out the invoice if you really must know.

They are replicas of the steel doors and use all the normal door furniture whether RS or normal C2/C4, with wind up or electric windows, central locking if you want etc. Carbon door skins alone are said to save 55lb the pair but I also deleted all the electrics so probably lost a bit more.

They have the fixing holdings for the RS door pull handlkes as I've got standard doors and had to use a decent self tapping screw for the door handles.

I think the metal is thinner too.

The glass is thinner but I've neer heard of the metasl being thinner before. 3.8's and RSR's had Ali doors but was sure 964RS was a standard C2/C4 door?

The PET lists only one pair of part numbers for coupe doors. No differentiantion between standard and RS variants.

BTW, what does an original door cost?

Original door from Porsche is £1009.90 + VAT.

Think I will be sourcing one from elsewhere!!!!

Breakers/dismantlers will have plenty of 964 doors. That said, 1k each is the cost of carbon doors so it could make sense to go down that route as well.
