....especially Val Verde county.....I got stopped for speeding twice in 15 minutes (also got stopped at a Border Patrol in between times). First time doing 86 in a 75 got off, second time doing 90 in a 75 which was a bit unfair as I was overtaking a truck down a hill and needed to get back in before the up slope on the other side of the dip and unfortunately as I pulled back in an unmarked police car crested the hill in front of me!

I have to phone the judge tomorrow to find out my fine

Bad luck there Vetteheadracer.

Tell the judge you are fact finding to bring the entire CCCUK to the state in 2007
and he might go lightly on you!

Were you in 'Vet - any photos for us?

Ahh, the wide open Texas spaces! Actually Texas is not as tough on speeders as most states. The Texas traffic ticket fine schedule is one of the lowest in USA although they can get tougher with drivers who exceed the limit by a big margin.

The fine for speeding in Texas starts at $120.00 for 5mph over and there is a graduated scale up to $185.00 for 25mph over. Above 25mph you have to contact the court. Some courts may also be allowed to add surcharges so the only way to know exactly is to contact the clerk of court. Most Texas traffic courts will not accept a check so you will need to pay by money order or, if in person, they will also be very happy with cash. Courts also award 2 penalty points for most speeding offences.

Sounds a better deal all round than the Gendarmes on the way to Le Mans!

Think mine was $196 form memory, Fran will remember as it was his highlight of the trip. That was 96 in a 77 in Georgia on the way back to Atlanta from BG.

I was fined the max fine of $300 in Florida a year or so ago for doing over 100mph in a 55 zone. After midnight, clear dual cariageway, in a C5 Corvette Convertible, what are you supposed to do?! State Trooper was hiuding in his Cruiser under a bridge.
I didn't have any hire docs or ID, so put on my best English accent and played the innocent tourist. He seemed to think that $300 was a real bad penalty, I was thinking "at 1.8 to the pound thats only about 150 quid or so, result!" whilst trying to keep a serious face on. Found out the next day that over 100mph in Florida can mean jail! Good job they never caught me doing 160 on the way back to Miami from Orlando...

I got fined more than that in Britain though for doing 43 in a 30 zone (5 lane wide carriageway in Watford with no pavements or houses nearby - go figure).

So maybe be careful in Britain, be polite in USA!

For some reason I think it had a ninety in it - whether or not it was 90 Dollars or the equivalent of £90, which would put it about 170 dollars at the time.

It was the highlight of my trip - Brett never let me forget that I was a bit late when I said 'Oh look - that cops pulling onto the road behind us...'

But we must all remember 'Hey - just SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWNN!'

In 2005 there were 3,500 prisoners on death row and 60 were executed

19 in Texas
5 each in Indiana, Missouri and North Carolina
4 each in Ohio, Alabama and Oklahoma
3 each in Georgia and South Carolina
2 in California
1 each in Connecticut, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Maryland and Mississippi.

Looks like VHR may have picked the wrong state after all!

They obviously prefer their sheep to have handlebars. Or maybe its because they're smaller in Texas ?

Reminds me of an incident when we lived in San Antonio, Tx.

My wife won the Texas Lottery. Only 5 numbers but she picked up $109.

Next day she's driving (the RHD Galaxy minivan) through Shavano City. This is one of those city enclaves withing the San Antonio City boundaries. The limit goes from 45 to 30 and back to 45. The Shavano Police use it as a revenue gathering venue as many don't slow down. You got it - 40 in a 30. The Cop spent most of his time talking about the steering wheel being on the wrong side but still hit her for a $110 ticket.

Within 24 hrs a $1 loss. Hi ho.

I agree; don't speed in Texas.
