Im looking to get hold of some of the above - Pro R 15/50. In the past I have 'fed' the Griff on Mobil 1 but after seeing endless debate/discusssion on the subject it would appear that the above may have some advantages.

Any suggestions on where I can get hold of this for a decent price? I notice our friendly supplier in Cornwall has it listed as £44.99 for 5 litres. Is this good? Anywhere else I can try? Having it delivered is no probs. I am after 10 litres for now as the beast has its service coming up and will use 5 straight off

once you have been emailed your membership code from Opieoilman you need to login here

www.opieoils.co.uk/Members.aspx

entering the code you have been emailed

Then go back to the Silkoline page

www.opieoils.co.uk/performance_lubricants/silkolene.aspx

and you should see the discounted prices.

Why Pro R and not Pro S? The latter is 10W/50 which will be better on start up etc. Guy/Simon recommended the Pro S to me (Griff 500).

Pro 's' is the more suitable i thought, thats what i was recommended also,as its a little easier on the cold cranking .

Ahhhh...I think I can see my problem. I put in the TVRCC as my club rather than Pistonheads but - for some reason - the TVRCC are not affiliated!!

I have entered PH now so we'll wait for a response

Cheers

Anybody else know of any good placs for deals??

nope. I think there are more issues with 15 and cold start protection, you'd be best to drop opieoilman a line.

Hmm, interesting question, I would like to know the answer to that one.

You need to ask Simon or Guy (opieoilman). Having read quite a few of their posts, one possible advantage Pro S has is that it has a narrower range of grade i.e. 10-50 vs 10-60, and the narrower the range the more stable the oil. It's a compromise of course and the full answer would no doubt be very complicated!

To quote Opeoilman:
"Castrol RS10/60 is a hydrocracked mineral oil and not a true synthetic at all, not only that it is just too thick for almost any engine"

"Remember rs 10w-60 is not a true synthetic, it's petroleum based."

I'm certainly no expert, and I do not want to criticize them, but I do have one question. How come so many Porsche,Impreza, rallycars and many others, use Castrol 10w60 RS ?? In general I would say that it is one of the most widely used oils in motorsport.

It can't all be because of marketing only by Castrol ??
